Piazza Bra with the famous Arena di Verona

Piazza Bra can be described as a major transit area which is situated in the central part of Verona. Standing on the piazza is a stunning Roman amphitheater known as the Arena di Verona. Originally constructed in 30 AD, it is one of the largest and most preserved Roman amphitheaters currently standing. Being the world-famous love story, Casa di Giulietta is a 14th-century house with a small escalated balcony where the famous scene of Romeo and Juliet is presumed to have happened. Take pictures with the balcony, which was used by the famous Juliet, and touch the statue of Juliet in the yard for love! Castelvecchio Bridge and Fortress

Piazza delle Erbe

Formerly occupied by the Roman Forum this is a lively square with houses, shops, and cafes painted in warm colors. This has been complemented by a fountain which was built in the year 1368 and a statue of “Madonna Verona”. The colorful fresh fruit and vegetable market; buy a dress or a suit at one of the expensive stores; then stop for a glass of prosecco and a few tapas at the highly recommended Caffè Monte Baldo – a marvelous place to people watch!

San Zeno Maggiore Basilica

Take a trip back in time and visit the magnificent Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore. The present-day Romanesque building was constructed between 967 and 1138 AD though the cathedral was dedicated in 380 AD. The tours also encompass the Rose window, frescoes of the twelfth century, the quiet cloisters, and the crypt where the tomb of Verona’s patron saint is located. Make sure you also look at the great triptych of St Zeno’s life scenes depicted on the top of the altarpiece.

Shopping on Via Mazzini

The Veneto region is renowned for Amarone, a strong and concentrated red wine that is matured from dried grapes. Satisfy your palate with Amarone wine and explore a cantina, a traditional winemaker’s house, in the Valpolicella region. Taste various vintages alongside cheese and cured meats. To make your visit incredible, plan it in the middle of the harvest period (October) as you can observe the drying of the grapes firsthand.

Lake Garda Day Trip

Boat rides, water sports, and scenic beauty make Lake Garda one of the most fabulous and beautiful day trips from Verona in Italy. The drive through the beautiful countryside takes about an hour and ten minutes. Visit historical and beautiful small towns along the coast of Garda, take sunbathe at one of the beaches in Garda, and try a wonderful fish meal in the restaurants by the lake. As a more active means of seeing the area, rent a ferry and sail around the lake to visit the villages and drive past the painted houses on the hills.
