How To Travel Cheap?

Published On : 05 Sep 2024

1. Keep an open mind and do not stick to specific dates and places which you have in mind. The last thing important in the regular traveling price is that the travelling done during high demand season and holidays is always costly than during other seasons. Be ready to travel during the shoulder months or even during low travel periods so as to avoid having to spend a lot of money. Similarly, less tourism areas are even more affordable in terms of the price. The best way is to look for good eating places which are affordable depending on the amount of money you have.

2. Instead, utilize flight search engines, and subscribe to fare alerting services. Some online platforms, such as Skyscanner, Google Flights, Hopper and Scott’s Cheap Flights are useful to search for cheap flights. Why not sign up for fare drop so that you are informed when there are cheaper fares available? Do not rule out budget airlines, but be careful with additional charges.

3. Do not check a bag to minimize the chance of having to pay for a check-in luggage fee. Avoid spending extra for check-in luggage and only bring an overhead baggage. There are also other reasons why it is beneficial to pack light, not limited to saving money, but also travelling is less of a hassle.

4. Order your meals and drinks as the people of that place do. One of the biggest travel expenses is always food and beverages and so take meals at local eats. Wash cars, cook barbeques, picnic, eat street foods, shop at markets not restaurants. And avoid the tourist traps in the form of expensive bar and cafes. What the locals drink will cost less!

5. Use public transit. Subways, trains, and buses as opposed to taxis are much more effective means of transportation and are relatively cheap. Another choice is cycling and walking within the cities.

6. Consider alternative lodging. Resorts are comfortable but costly at times. This category also includes hostels, vacation rentals, housesitting, camping, and many other unusual types of accommodation that can greatly reduce your expenses on a stay.

7. Avoid overpriced tourist activities. Do not just join group tours without comparison. There may be much cheaper tour options, or even free attractions, such as hiking, walking tours, or visiting free museums.

8. Take longer to travel and spend more time in any given location. This is because racing through countries or cities is tiring. It also becomes costly to be on the move all the time. Do it at a slower pace and explore culture in fewer destinations.

9. Travel lightly and wash clothes when needed. Carrying all around clothes and washing them whenever necessary is useful in saving on luggage space and does not require constant shopping to find something to wear. Wash small items in the sink to make your wardrobe last longer.

10. Travel credit cards with rewards programs. Easily accumulate miles and points with a travel credit card that matches your spending pattern. Redeem points for future travel. The only thing you need to remember is to pay the bill on time!

This is however not an impossibility because as the adage goes, the world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page. Slow travel helps one embrace freshness of cultures in various destinations. But experimenting with the local cuisine mostly brings the most unforgettable experiences – and spend little money on exquisite restaurants. The idea, therefore, is to travel with the right attitude and be ready to maximize whatever destination one finds themselves in. Happy budget travels!
