Top 10 Cool Things To Do In Porto Portugal

Porto is one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal and is situated on the river side of Douro. It has white-washed limestone and granite structures, attractive plazas, and active nightlife. 

1. Explore Ribeira District

The colorful houses of the Ribeira area on the river bank and on the water are some of the most popular places to take pictures in Porto. It follows a picturesque walk along the narrow and picturesque cobblestone streets and is disoriented among the houses. Make sure you take numerous pictures of the São Francisco Church and Dom Luís I Bridge and capture the essence of Porto. The best time to visit is early morning or late evening to capture the golden hour and beautiful colors.

2. Sample Port Wine

Just like every traveler cannot afford to miss the authentic Port wine while in Porto. Visit the Port wine to learn how it is produced as well as experience the different tastes. Taste wines directly from Wine cellars such as Graham’s, Taylor’s, or Ferreira or take a tour through the Wine cellars. Or take a ride on those conventional Rabelo boats for a more appealing wine-tasting experience. It can also be served with some local cheeses for an excellent snack.

3. Go for Food Trail

The culinary walks are without doubt some of the most effective ways to taste the local produce. Enjoy some of the true Portuguese food such as the mouth-watering francesinha sandwich, filled with different varieties of meat and cheese. Or you might try grilled sardines, octopus rice and pasta, salt cod, and of course the famous Pastel de Nata, a sweet custard tart from Portugal. Food tripping on a walking tour means you get to taste mouth-watering, sweet flavors and savory from all over the city.

4. Cruise Along the Douro River

A Douro river cruise is perhaps the best way to enjoy an aerial view of Porto and gorge on the scenic bridges and houseboat buildings. As you sip your cup of coffee, you can take in some of the interesting sights such as the towering bridges, the Ribeira district, and the Gaia neighborhood. You can go for a day or evening one, or a cruise that comes with wine and dinner for a thrilling experience.

5. Sea Life Porto is one of my favorite places to visit

For some family fun, get to Sea Life Porto situated at the riverside near Douro River – Porto’s aquarium that boasts the biggest freshwater tank in Europe. Be enthralled by the sight of thousands of water beings like the cute and comical penguins, the regal stingrays, tropical fishes, and vibrant starfishes. They can watch feeding shows of the fish and also take a walk through the tunnel made of glass through which they can see different fishes.

6. Discover or learn more about Vila Nova de Gaia

Over the Riberia district lies Vila Nova de Gaia – a city that boasts of Porto wine cellars nestled along the Douro River’s southern side. Located in this neighborhood that boasts of buildings painted in bright colors and narrow streets, one can take the Cable Car or even a Rabelo boat trip to get here. In addition to wine tours, remember to make time to visit Gaia’s beach, garden, and coastal paths.

7. A great walk is at the Luís I Bridge great place to take photographs.

This is a two-tier iron and steel constructed in the 1800s and this is one of the most famous landmarks of Porto it is built across the Douro River. Spend some leisurely time walking on the top of this massive bridge that links Porto and Vila Nova; this will give you an excellent view of the city and the river. Luís I Bridge is also particularly lovely at dusk since the entire structure is wonderfully lit making it a perfect backdrop for photography enthusiasts.

8. Take a stroll around Serralves Park where you can see a beautiful museum

Serravles Park is the largest urban park in Porto occupying 18 hectares of the city’s land and forms one of the must-visit spots for those interested in taking a stroll amidst nature. Art lovers should take a peek into the state-of-the-art structure that serves as home to Serralves Museum containing pieces of modern and contemporary art, Serralves Garden. Visit their galleries, and programs and walk through within the art deco maison enclosed in this expansive arts hub.

9. Climb Clérigos Tower

The Clérigos Church tower, with its baroque-style architecture, is discernible from most of the parts of Porto. The Lighthouse was built in 1763, and to get to the top of the spiral staircase with a total of 225 steps and gain a view from a height of 75 meters there are some breathtaking views of the city, the river, and the Atlantic coast. To get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding landmarks that characterize this colorful skyline should be fun and have taken many awesome shots!

10. Night-out at Ribeira Nightlife District

Find out how the lights go out and the personalities that come out at night in Porto, with vibrant towns such as Riberia and Galeria Paris. Go bar hopping through skinny lanes, grooving to foot-tapping music at the music bar, late late-night cocktail bars that function as the sun rises. In terms of eating and drinking outside, the wine bars at the riverside and the active terrace areas are some of the most favorite areas for tourists and the residents of the city.
