Ride The Great: Toboggan Adventure In Beijing

Spending a day in this park, one can feel he is in the Alps, right from the entrance of the park which has a distinct alpine feel. Bamboo structures with relatively inclined roofs are placed around the central square which contains gates for buying tickets, and souvenirs, and the main building contains a cafeteria restaurant. The delightful barbeque smell of meat, cheese, and chocolate is felt and seen through the posters inviting riders who are rested to indulge in more runs.

Following the acquisition of tickets, enthusiasts of the sports have the following choices of toboggans that may suit their daring abilities. For a slow and less thrilling experience, multiple riders can sit on a single toboggan on metal rails and get to enjoy the magnificent views of the mountain while being pulled downwards at a speed of not more than 15 miles per hour and taking approximately 5 minutes. On the other end of the spectrum, the ‘Ride The Great’ 4-person toboggan whisks nearly 2 miles with twists and turns of over 50 mph for almost 10 minutes of great riding like no other.

More experienced riders seeking to push the envelope can use a hand-operated brake to regulate speed for the best experience. Sharing the g-force while looking into the eyes of your partner as you race down the next hairpin bend only makes it all the more special. Riders’ heart rates are raised as they attempt to swerve to avoid triangles or other obstacles, while briefly getting a glimpse of the scenery. The runs are situated in the mountains with thick pine trees and rocky slopes covering most of the area. Thus, the ride called “Dragon’s Spine” surprises with a 360-degree loop where riders are literally upside down for a couple of seconds.

And who would not want a good spill or two while having the toboggan ride of their lives anyway? Thankfully, all the riders are dressed in full-body snowsuits and helmets, as is usual for such stunts, to minimize the risk of injuries. To further enhance safety, the seat of each toboggan also has built-in seat belts while any areas that are likely to come in contact with the riders have padding. People posted at various points on the way may help riders who may fall or get lost in their journey. Although one may occasionally stumble and have a couple of falls on the sled, the simple joy of racing down the snowy hills with the wind in your face is worth all the falls!

Riders in line can discuss the experience with the other adventurers, and there is an option for spectator passes whereby friends and family can watch the events without participating in the ride. There is nothing as exhilarating as watching groups travel at breathtaking speed knowing fully well that at some distant corner, the next thrilled scream will echo as they round corners and go down steep inclines.

Commonly some of the riders wear full facial gear and skit in lower courtyard tracks before making other runs. While the winters in Beijing are usually not extremely cold, snow machines are made to operate on a day-to-day basis to give the feel and look of a winter wonderland. Free time can be spent in creating small artificial families from the snow or in amusing snowball fights. To have laughter and joy in the mountain air just gives this extra dimension of enchantment to this fairy-tale adventure playground.

As the sun sets behind the mountain cliffs, many thrill seekers gather around 6 large bonfire places located all through the compound grilling marshmallows on skewers. Sitting around the fire young people and friends share anecdotes of their high speed descends of the mountain with laughter of victory and sometimes the pains of failure while drinking hot cocoa. Everyone cherishes the memories and friends made during the processing and even the howling.

9 tobogganing trails in the park cater to all abilities ranging from beginner level to the most advanced. Overcoming “Dragon’s Spine” or even completing the start path makes one ready to tackle the realities of life in the civilized society in the West. It was envisioned that when the enthusiastic owners started construction 5 years ago, it was not to create just another amusement park. Their main goals were to physically build an enchanting world that forms a lasting character through play for every age. By the look of grin on their faces and streaks of thrill, tell you what, they have surpassed their targets by several folds.
