Published On : 03 Sep 2024

Bali, Indonesia often referred to as the "Island of Gods," is a paradise on Earth that offers a diverse array of experiences. Whether you're an adventurer, a beach lover, or a culture enthusiast, Bali has something for everyone. Here are the top 10 places you must visit in Bali to truly experience its magic.

10. Canggu

Canggu is a popular hipster village in Bali known for its vibrant atmosphere. It is a haven for expats, digital nomads, and surfers, offering a unique vibe that's hard to find anywhere else.

Canggu Beach

Located between green rice fields and black sand beaches, Canggu is home to numerous Instagram-worthy cafes and beach clubs. Here’s a quick to-do list for Canggu:

  • Eat
  • Watch sunset
  • Walk on the beach
  • Eat again

My favorite spot for a sunset walk is the black sand beach near Ejo Beach and La Briza Bali Beach Club. Additionally, Basud Beach is a must-visit. You can drive your motorbike right on the sand near the ocean, making it a popular spot for photo shoots.

9. Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu Temple is a stunning Balinese Hindu temple situated on the edge of a rock cliff, offering breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. This magical place is one of the best spots to watch the sunset on the island.

However, be cautious of the cheeky monkeys that roam the area. One of them once ripped my glasses right off my face, and it took a security guard trading a banana to get them back!

8. Ubud

Ubud is considered the heart and soul of Bali. It's a cultural hub that offers a range of unique experiences, from monkey encounters to scenic rice walks.

Ubud Rice Fields

A must-do activity in Ubud is visiting the Monkey Forest. It's fascinating to watch the monkeys in their natural habitat, but be sure to follow the rules to avoid any mishaps. My husband learned this the hard way when a monkey bit him after he tried to pet it while it was eating.

Another must-visit is the Champoyan Rice Walk and the Street of Masters, an eight-kilometer stretch filled with shops selling local souvenirs, art, and furniture.

7. Melasti Beach

Melasti Beach, located in the south of Bali, is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It's not only stunning but also one of the few beaches where swimming is allowed, albeit only during low and middle tides.

There are two ways to reach the beach: by motorbike or car via a scenic road carved into white rock, or by cableway from Karma Beach Club. Both routes offer picturesque views.

6. Tegalalang Rice Terrace

The Tegalalang Rice Terraces are one of Bali's most iconic landscapes. Known for their unique irrigation system called Subak, these terraces are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

5. Leke Leke Waterfall

Bali is home to over forty waterfalls, but Leke Leke Waterfall stands out for its beauty. Located an hour's ride from Ubud, this waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a serene spot to visit.

If you're already in the area, it's worth driving an extra twenty kilometers north to the Handara Golf Resort, often referred to as "Balinese Switzerland" for its cool mountain climate and Alpine views. The entrance gate to the resort is a popular photo spot.

4. Sekumpul Waterfall

Sekumpul Waterfall is the highest and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bali. If you have limited time, this is the one waterfall you shouldn't miss.

Be sure to bring a raincoat, as the weather can be unpredictable. The trail to the waterfall can get quite wet, especially at the bottom.

3. Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach is located on Nusa Penida, a small island near Bali. The beach is accessible via a hundred steps carved into white rock, leading to a pristine white sand beach with blue waters and stunning rock formations.

Though the beach has become increasingly popular, many tourists only take photos on the steps and don't venture down to the beach itself, which is a missed opportunity. Near Diamond Beach, you can also find a famous treehouse that you can rent on Airbnb. However, it offers only basic amenities.

2. Kelingking Beach

Kelingking Beach, also on Nusa Penida, is often considered the most beautiful beach in Bali. The turquoise blue water is simply mesmerizing.

The climb down to the beach is challenging but worth the effort. Allocate a whole day to fully enjoy this spot, from the descent to relaxing on the beach and climbing back up during sunset.

This beach holds a special place in my heart as it’s where my husband proposed to me three and a half years ago.

1. Sidemen

Sidemen is an underrated gem in Bali, located in the eastern part of the island. It offers the most breathtaking views of Mount Agung, Bali's largest and most sacred volcano.

This region is perfect for a relaxing getaway, featuring luxury hotels and unique bamboo villas. Waking up to the view of Mount Agung and the surrounding rice terraces is an unparalleled experience.
