Here are 12 vacation destinations near Dallas you should consider for your next holiday trip.

1. Austin

Austin is among the most popular and rapidly developing cities in the United States, and it is the capital of Texas. This city is famous for performing arts, innovative spirit, and the unofficial slogan that says, ‘The bigger they are, the harder they fall,’ and there are many good places to eat, shop at, and have fun in. You should not miss the Texas State Capitol building; there is also good shopping along South Congress Avenue; and the music clubs and street entertainment on Sixth Street are worth a listen.

2. San Antonio

Just a few minutes more than two hours and thirty minutes drive, and you will get to the historic city of San Antonio. Some of the best places that are a must-visit include the Riverwalk, the Alamo, several noteworthy museums, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It also has good Tex-Mex food, Shopping, and many others.

3. Fort Worth Stockyards

Looking to experience what the old West was like? Check out Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. 4. Waco

6. Tyler

7. Jefferson

This historical little riverboat town is perfectly symbolizing a small American town. Stroll around the past houses, buildings, museums, or eateries by the waterfront. Next door is Caddo Lake State Park, a wet, sylvan region that features bayous and a substantial population of animals.

Canton's tagline “First Monday Capital of Texas” is due to the large flea markets held on the first Monday of every month where vendors come in to sell items such as antiques, crafts, food, etc. Fishing is also nearby with Canton being near one of the state’s best bass fishing lakes known as the Lake Fork.

Known as the “Christmas Capital of Texas” this Dallas suburb goes all out for Christmas, especially for the Gaylord Texan Resort’s spectacular and unique Lone Star Christmas event. But Grapevine also has a historic district, wines, and grape vineyards, and is situated between DFW International Airport and Lake Grapevine, Texas.

10. Wichita Falls

Wichita Falls can be found up near the Texas/Oklahoma border and is unexpectedly perfect for a weekend. It has good museums, a park with waterfalls, recreation areas that include lakes, good stores, and eating places, and most of them are located downtown just by the Wichita River.

The boundary between North Texas and Southern Oklahoma stretches across Lake Texoma which is a popular lake resort and recreation facility for both states.
