August is generally considered as favourable for travelling as the climate conditions are favourable in many of the attractions and children are out of school due to summer holidays. If you're looking for where to travel in August, here are some of the top places worth considering.

Alaska

It is beautiful in Alaska in August. It will be clear to partly cloudy with comfortable temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Go on a cruise to the glaciers in Alaska, trout fishing for salmon, observing animals including bears and moose, and visiting such facility as Denali National Park. This weather is good for outdoor activities such as hiking due to the warm and dry conditions. Just pack some extra clothes because even at night it can get cool.

Western Europe

London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and Amsterdam are favorite places to visit in August, among other hot spots. The tourist rush will have died down a little by August but you’ll get to see Europe at the height of summer. Enjoy your days in sightseeing to places such as Eiffel tower, Stonehenge and have your meals in outside dining cafes. The climate is mild but not hot by any standard, especially during the time that I went there.

The Rocky Mountains

Cool off at mountain cities such as Denver, Durango, Banff, and Jackson Hole. Expect cool winds, clear skies and reasonable temperatures suitable for trekking and enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding environment. Ride a horse in the Rocky Mountain National Park, do the challenging rafting or fly fishing, mountain biking or just take it easy while enjoying the picturesque mountains. It is only late August and you will almost feel the autumn breeze.

New England

New England is beautiful in August starting from Maine all the way to Boston then to Cape Cod. This would include lighthouses, beaches, seafood especially lobsters, cities near the coast with historical past, and beautiful towns located in the mountains. You may even be able to snag some deals in tropical areas as the season begins to taper off toward the end of the month. There is also a possibility that the early signs of fall colors are observable as early as late August.

The Caribbean

The Caribbean is less busy in general and you could find some good hotel deals in August as well. Go to destinations like Jamaica, Dominican Republics, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and many others for the sandy beaches, blue water, reef for snorkeling/diving, rum and reggae music. The only downside is the tropical climate with scorching heat and humidity throughout the year and occasional rains.

San Diego

For instance, in August, San Diego has bright and sunny most of the days and the temperatures hover in the mid 70s most of the days. Enjoy as much beach, surfing, trekking, seaside eats, and other interesting sites such as the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. The sunsets over the ocean are also beautiful at this time of the year too. No wonder, people go gaga over San Diego especially during summer.

National Parks

Summer especially the month of August is an ideal time to visit some of the famous National Parks in America such as the Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier National Park, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and the likes. You will receive warmer and sunny days to take advantage of the remarkable trails for hiking, wildlife, and views. Just remember that the parks will be crowded especially during the summer months. New York City

Well, it may be hot and sticky in the Big Apple by the time August arrives, but that does not put a hold on activities in the city. Attend some broadway musicals as theatre stars come back from their July break, visit world renowned museums such as the Met and Guggenheim, take the ferry to visit the Statue of Liberty, take a walk through Central Park, and indulge in New York’s great food which ranges from pizza to the star studded restaurants.

Hawaii

Of course, Hawaii remains utterly gorgeous in August. In most of the islands, you will escape the brunt of the summer tourist traffic and fare. Look forward to hot weather, beautiful beaches and scenery, authentic Hawaiian food, sun and outdoor pursuits, and the laid-back island atmosphere. August is dry season in Peru particularly in the attractions such as Machu Picchu and Cusco. The weather is ideal for touring the Sacred Valley, visiting the famous ruins without the rain and trecking the Inca Trail. It will be warmer for trekking and to get better acquainted with places like Lima and Cusco as well. Do not lose a chance to observe the stunning views of Andes mountains.

Greece

Tourism in Greece is as if you are actually getting into a beautiful fairytale during the month of August. The sea is a brilliant blue while the buildings are all white with colourful accents on the cliffs at places such as Santorini and Mykonos. Prepare for warm and sunny conditions as you island hop through the Aegean Sea, with lively ouzo in the background, history and culture in front, and pristine beaches that may just be some of the bluest waters that you have ever gotten your feet wet in.
