October means the autumn, stunning leaves, Halloween celebrations and low tourist season in most of the so popular sights. New England

New England is particularly beautiful in October when the trees shed their leaves and turn red, orange, yellow. Some top destinations include:

A short drive from D.C., Virginia has wine trails and charming B&Bs.

Spain

It can still be beach and swimming weather well into October particularly in areas around the Costa del Sol and island destinations such as Mallorca. On-shore, watch out for food and wine festivals that showcase the autumn olive oil and grapes. October is also equally good for trekking some of the mountain villages in the northern part of Spain such as Ordesa or wine and food trail areas such as La Rioja.
