Mamluk Castle

The Aqaba Fortress, also known as the Mamluk Castle, is famous for its role in the Arab revolt. The Fortress is mainly intact today, and you can explore the entire two-storey structure, including the stables, the prison and the execution room. The main gate has been beautifully preserved in its original state. The Aqaba Fortress acted mainly as a roadside inn for pilgrims on their way to Mecca and Medina until the 19th century when it was turned into a military stronghold. The Byzantine Basilica is the ruins of a 6th-century church located in the Amman Citadel. The remains of a central nave and two side aisles, stunning Corinthian capitals decorated with Acanthus leaves taken from the Temple of Hercules, and columns engraved in Greek can also be seen. This is because many of the parts used for this church were from the Temple of Hercules. There is also evidence of rectangular ruins here which are speculated to have been rooms added by the Umayyads later. The Basilica is located inside the Amman citadel and other popular attractions such as the Temple of Hercules and the Archaeological Museum. Cave of the Seven Sleepers

Cave of the Seven Sleepers

The Cave of the Seven Sleepers is a historical site located in the Al Rajib village to the East of Amman. Legend believes that seven men escaped religious persecution and hid from the Roman Emperor Decius in this Cave and miraculously emerged 300 years later. The Cave was discovered in 1963 and contains eight small graves and a ventilation duct. There is a hole in one of the tombs through which you can see a collection of human bones. The entrance to the Cave is small and points south towards Mecca. The Cave is divided into three sections, while above and below the Cave are mosques. There is also a Byzantine cemetery nearby. There are also the remnants of structures from quite a few cultures like the Romans, the Persians, the Canaanites, the Babylonians, and the Byzantines. The Cave is near the Sabah bus station and approximately a fifteen-minute bus ride from Amman's Wihdat Station. Read More

Dar Al-Anda Art Gallery

Dar Al-Anda is an art gallery with the largest private art collection of Middle East art in Jordan. Located on Dhirar Bin Al Azwar Street on Jabal al Weibdeh, it is housed in heritage villas. The gallery showcases modern artists from Jordan and the Middle East along with home decor and artistic fashion sections. It also offers spectacular views of the seven hills of Amman. Some of the modern artists whose work is showcased here include, Dia Azzawi, Ismail Fattah, Muhannad Durrah, etc. Since its establishment more than 25 years ago, Dar Al-Anda has hosted over 200 exhibitions. A variety of musical, cultural, and literary events also take place here. The two villas in which the gallery is houses were built in the 1930s and their terraced constructions are a highlight. Darat Al Funun

Darat Al Funun is home of the arts that contains a series of small art exhibitions and an archaeological site providing insight into the history of Amman. It is a hub for indigenous and contemporary Arab art displayed in six buildings that were rehabilitated to become a centre of Arabian art and culture. The buildings themselves can be considered part of the exhibition as they are some of the oldest buildings in the country. The Dead Sea is a salt lake in the Jordan Rift valley. It is known for its 34% salt concentration which provides so much buoyancy that it is impossible to sink in its waters. It is a very popular location for quick swimming or floating. Some animals like the ibexes can be spotted here. The salt and mud of the Dead Sea are very therapeutic The Dead Sea Panorama Complex is located nearby and is filled with interesting facts about the Dead Sea and its history. There is also an arcade with over 100 video games and adventure play areas. The Jingo's Jungle spans two floors of the mall and can host over 1000 people. They have recreations of barbie houses and even an area for toddlers filled with age-appropriate toys. In addition, it contains food stalls and is located right next to the City Mall foodcourt. Jordan Museum

Located in the Ras Al-Ein district of Amman, the Jordan Museum is the largest in the country. It displays the most important archaeological discoveries made in Jordan. These include statues from Ain Ghazal dating back to 7500 BCE, considered the oldest surrounding statues in human history, animal bones that are 1.5 million years old, and some of the Dead Sea scrolls. The collections can be viewed in chronological order in the museum. The Jordan Museum also features outdoor exhibitions, lecture halls, a conservation centre, a library and a play area for children.
