Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary
Dig into natures choicest offerings at the Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary. Located just 15 km away from Anandpur Sahib, this nature reserve is the ideal destination for nature lovers, wildlife photographers and adventure enthusiasts. Situated close to the mighty Sutlej river, this wildlife sanctuary offers truly delightful visual treats of nature to visitors. Visitors should not forget to bring their camera and binoculars.
The sanctuary covers an area of about 289 acres, with about 218 acres belonging to Jhajjar village, about 55 acres belonging to Bachauli village and the rest belonging to Lamlehri village. It was declared a wildlife reserve in 1998. It is best visited during the winter months from November to March because of pleasant weather. Summers can be too hot, and Monsoons are too rainy for travel within the reserve. The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of plants and animals with trees like Eucalyptus, Khair, Neem, Shisham, Amla, Subabul etc. Many of these trees have medicinal properties. Ropar Wetlands
Situated in the lower Himalayan Shivalik range, and 50 km away from Anandpur Sahib, this ecological zone is a human-made wetland that was created in 1952. This reserve spreads over 1365 hectares and is home to at least nine different species of mammals, 35 different kinds of fish, nine species of arthropods, ten protozoan species, 11 rotifer species and more than 150 species of birds. Many of these animal species belong to the endangered list, for example, the Chitra Indica turtle and the Python molurus snake.
The site has been extensively developed for tourism and sees hundreds of visitors every day, who enjoy in this naturally scenic spot with family and friends. Ropar wetlands are an important bird sanctuary where several species of migratory birds visit. There is a possibility to hire a guide who arranged bird watching tours on the site. There are plenty of food stalls and souvenir shops along the lake. The serene lake in the middle and the thick cover of green foliage covering the perimeter is a treat for eyes and deserves to be captured in photographs.

A visit to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sikh Museum will be an excellent opportunity for you to learn about the glorious past of Sikhism and witness the grandeur of some priceless relics and artefacts from the past. The museum was built in 1983 to mark the 300th anniversary of the Guru’s martyrdom and is located very close to the Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib Ji.
The imposing and grand building exudes the charm of the enormous Gurudwara and is tastefully decorated in flowers on days that are important to Sikhism. The museum spreads across two levels- the ground level is more than 3700 square feet in the area while the first level is about 1387 square feet. Besides, visitors will be mesmerised by the nine domes that are built with fibreglass and reflect the light from inside to the outside, appearing as shining crown jewels of the building at night.Inside, visitors will find a huge collection of rare paintings that portray the painful yet glorious battles that Sikhs had to fight against invaders. The expressions on the subjects of these painting are the testimony to the struggle and sacrifices that Sikhs made for the country. Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib Ji
Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib Ji is a famous Gurudwara is located right in the heart of Anandpur Sahib and is among the most revered Sikh institutions in the country. Its foundation was laid in 1689, and the Khalsa Panth was born here. The initiation of Khande di Pahul by Guru Gobind Singh Ji happened here on the holy day of Baisakhi in 1699. This sacred shrine holds great importance among locals.
Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib Ji has a rich and glorious history. The invading armies were never able to reach this place. It is one of the five supreme seats of authority (Takhats). It is home to numerous relics and memoirs from the past, including Guru Gobind Singh’s Khanda- the double-edged sword that was used by him to prepare Amrit, his personal dagger- Katara, his own gun that was gifted to him by one follower in Lahore, and the double-edged weapon called Saif, that was gifted to him by Bahadur Shah.The current building complex is a majestic structure in white, shining brightly in the sun. It was built between 1936 and 1944. Because it is built on the slope of a hill, two levels are supported and protected by retaining walls. Visitors will be enthralled to see the mighty gateway that extends over two-storeys and has multiple offices and a vast courtyard.The ground level has the main building at an elevation of about 2.5 meters. The holy Guru Granth Sahib rests outside the sanctum under a canopy adorned by a lotus-shaped dome with a high-rising pinnacle and a khanda. The Virasat-e-Khalsa Sikh museum was built in the honour of Sikhism and celebrates the glorious Sikh history.
