Kudumbigala Monastery

It is a 3000 years old monastery built in 246 BC near Arugam Bay, Srilanka. It was built during the time of king Devanampriyatissa. It is hidden in the thick jungle on the Panama - Kumana road. It is completely isolated from other parts of the world and was once used to accommodate Buddhist monks who wanted to get away from the busy cities. Archaeological studies claim that there are more than 200 caves in the vicinity of Kudumbigala Monastery all with inscribed Brahmi script. Maha Sudharshana Lena is the biggest cave here. Muhudu Maha Viharaya, Arugam Bay

Muhudu Maha Viharaya is a Buddhist temple situated at Pottuvil in Ampara District, Eastern province of Sri Lanka. This temple is next to a beach and was built over 2000 years ago by King Kavan Tissa of Ruhuna. The temple is known for ruins and remains of ancient stupas, Seema Malaka, Avasa Geya and statues that attract visitors from all over the world. Being a Buddhist temple, the most famous figures in the temple are that of Lord Buddha. There are other stone statues of famous Gods and kings in the temple.
