One of the major attractions in Auli is to enjoy a cable car ride. Locally known as a Gondola, the cable car ride in Auli is the second highest and the longest cable car ride in Asia after Gulmarg. Covering a total distance of 4 km, the journey starts at Joshimath and ends at Auli, and takes a total time of around 24 min. Perched at a staggering height of 3010 m above sea level, the entire trip is a visual and sensual delight. You can enjoy the majestic Himalayan peaks in the surroundings and the lush green valley below. Moving at a speed of 3 m per sec, you can enjoy views of the oak forests below in addition to snow-capped peaks and verdant meadows. The scintillating views and the gorgeous panoramic vistas are a sight to behold. The ropeway works with two cable cars through 10 towers and can accommodate upto 25 passengers. The snow-covered hill station of Auli covered with evergreen conifers and the oak forest is located at an altitude of 2000 -3000 metres above sea level and is an ideal place for skiing in India. Auli offers some of the finest slopes of the Himalayan range where you can trek. Peaks ranging from about 2500 to 3000 m, Auli has some well-defined trekking routes for trekking enthusiasts. You can trek up to Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana Parvat, Dunagiri and Joshimath from Auli. Other smaller trekking ranges are Gorson, Tali, Kuari Pass, Khulara and Tapovan. Joshimath is also a base camp for many treks.

Trishul Peak

The three Himalayan mountain peaks of western Kumaun as a whole form the Trishul peak. Having a height of 7120m, the Trishul group forms the southwest corner of the ring of peaks that enclose Nanda Devi Sanctuary. In 1907, the main peak - Trisul I - became the first peak over 7,000m to have ever been climbed by someone. The peak can be best viewed from Kausani or during the Roopkund Trek.
