What started off as a joint initiative by the government and WWF to save Balinese turtles by eradicating turtle trading has now become a popular tourist attraction. Established on 24 hectares of land, this place aims at spreading information and education regarding the consumption of Turtle meat and eggs which is still used in some religious rituals in Bali, as well as preserve and save the environment. The fundamental aspects of this centre include putting a permanent end to turtle trading, encouraging the public to not consume turtle meat and products, monitoring turtle sizes and numbers and offering them for religious rituals without having them killed, providing job opportunities to locals of Serangan, and finally acting as watchdogs over turtle trade in this area.
