The Brahmaputra River
Known as Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet, the Brahmaputra river originates from the south-western part of Tibet. It enters India through the Himalayas, where it is known as Dihang.
The 2,900 km long river Brahmaputra is the main river often used for irrigation and transportation purposes. Tourists can visit Baghbar hills for beautiful views of the river as it flows down from the Great Himalayas.
Beki river
The Beki River, originating in Bhutan, is one of the right bank tributaries of the River Brahmaputra. A significant portion of this river flows through Assam. It serves as a source of livelihood and mode of transport for the many communities in Assam. A great view over the river can be had from the bridge along NH-31 which runs across the river.
Dargah of Syed Shahnur Dewan
Dargah of Syed Shahnur Dewan, one of the spots for tourists, especially those of the Muslim faith is located at Bhella, nearly 8 km away from the destination.
This is a spot of great importance and faith because it is said that during medieval period, Syed Shahnur Dewan, a disciple of Muslim Sufi saint Ajan Fakir, arrived at this very place for spreading Islamic religion and Sufi philosophies.
Sundariya Satra
Sundaridiya Satra, is one of the religious places in the destination and was constructed by Shri Madhavdeva after he left the Ganakkuchi Satra. Apart from serving adobe to Shri Madhavdeva, the premises of the shrine played a vital role in spreading Vaishnavisim and reformation.
The Barpeta Satra
One of the most popular Satras in Assam, the Barpeta Satra was originally known as 'Barpeta Than'. Located centrally in the town of Barpeta, it was established by Sri Madhabdeva around 500 years ago sometime in 1583 AD. Sri Mathura Das Burha Ata, a disciple of Sri Madhabdeva, became the first Satria of Barpeta Satra. Today, the Barpeta Satra functions as a 'Kirtanghar' and stands as an important site for Vaishnavite devotees and aims to spread the teachings and culture of Vaishnavism. An important festival celebrated here is Holi, where devotees flock from across the state to observe Doul Mahotsav.
