Caricature & Cartoon Museum

This truly is a one-of-a-kind creation. This museum includes everything that is related to fun and cartoons! This museum was built in 1979. Its exhibits include parodies, cartoons, a form of art called pastiche, caricatures and comics. Theme based exhibitions are also held here. The museum actually boasts of over 3,000 works of art by about 700 artists. The building has been created in true Gothic style.æ

This is the most popular market square in all of Basel and is the busiest on Saturdays.æ Marktplatz is an extremely busy market square, its most dominant feature being the bright City Hall. Munster is an impressive Gothic cathedral with spires that is open to the public. Munster also offers you a stunning view of the River Rhine and you can even spot the Black Forest and Alsace in the glimmering distance from here. This cathedral was destroyed after an earthquake back in 1356. When it was re-built, the exteriors were typically Gothic in style while the interiors were more Romanesque. PapiermÙhle is a Paper Mill museum in Basel. This is an old paper mill that today shows you how real paper is made. The Paper Mill Museum is located on an old canal. It has an intact waterwheel and even fully working machines that show you how handmade paper is produced, how the art of printing really came to be and how books are bound. Created by Jean Tinguely, this is one fountain that no one would have ever seen before. It is also another popular landmark of Basel. Jean Tiguely was a Swiss artist. Back in 1977, he created a unqiue fountain. Laying the base with asphalt, he created a lot of strange looking machines that would spew out water. All of these machines/figures are made using iron. The fountain was built in place of the stage of an old theatre company, so the figures or machines were made to behave like actors or dancers, going in perfect co-ordination with each other.æ Read More
