Ride the Bamboo Train

A unique and interesting attraction in Krong Battambang is its innovative bamboo train, which is essentially a bamboo flatbed that runs on wheels. Powered by a tractor and small motorcycle engines, the rail track of the bamboo train stretches from Battambang to the capital of Phnom Penh. Though the abandoned track only allows a train ride of about 7 kilometres, ending at a nearby village, the open bamboo track through the jungles and souvenir shops is definitely an experience worthwhile. The Well of Shadows is the memorial place for the victims that lost their lives during the Khmer Rouge genocide. Over 10,000 victims were imprisoned and killed in the Wat Samrong Knog temple situated 200 meters from the memorial site. The top floor features a glass box containing the skulls of the dead, and the bottom houses bas-reliefs depicting the horrors of the genocide that transpired in the rice fields and the woods in the surrounding area.
