Wind Cave is a popular limestone cave formation, located 50km from Kuching and 5km southwest of Bau. The Wind Caves are a network of underground streams and are a local favourite sight. The highlight of these caves are the multiple species of bats - including the Dusky Fruit bats and the queer formations all across the three tunnels caused by the river tears since thousands of years. This rocky land, on the banks of the Sarawak River, has 3 tunnels that let you explore across the cave.
A walking trail of 1 km on a boardwalk vanishes into the dark unlit tunnel interiors that is home to hundreds of bats. Once you go inside, a flashlight is a must-have to take a tour around the pillars, the stalactites and stalagmites that have developed since the ancient times. Look out for the little nests and eggs lined across the cave walls.A dainty stream passes through the cave and joins the Sungai Sarawak Kanan at the northern end. A significant part of Wind Cave is wide with flat roofs, while the smaller passages form a haphazard network in the northern region. There is also a sandy beach. There are notice boards along the pathway, providing information about the various species like the coprophagous cavernicole, and directions including the Yellow Reflective Stickers that marks the routes for safety purposes. You can rent torches at the entrance to guide yourself and expedite around this wonder of nature properly, along the boardwalks and steps that are scattered all across. You can also find people selling souvenirs and food items in small outlets outside the main entrance.
