Bahadurpur Fort

Bahadurpur Fort was once a majestic fort located in the district of Bilaspur. What remains today are the ruins which are unidentifiable, but the location is still known as Bahadurpur Fort. The fort was perched on the Bahadurpur Hill at the height of 6200 feet near a village named Tepra which is at a distance of 40 kilometres from the town of Bilaspur. The site is often visited by tourists exploring Bilaspur because of its picturesque beauty. Since the fort no longer exists, the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department has proposed building a guest house and develop the area with the intention of promoting tourism in Himachal Pradesh. The plan will include several facilities, adventure and recreational activities. The hill it is located on - Bahadurpur Hill was named so after the fort was erected by King Keshab Chand in 1620 AD. The surroundings include dense natural vegetation including Ban and Deodar trees. The rest house is located amidst the natural landscape, and that makes Bahadurpur Fort a perfect attraction those who wish to escape the stressful city lifestyle. Its reservoir is known as 'Gobind Sagar' which stores up to 9.34 billion cubic meters of water. Jawaharlal Nehru honourably called it as the "New Temple of Resurgent India." It attracts a significant number of tourists from all over the country. Bhakra Dam is 15 km from Nangal city. Nangal Dam is a downstream dam to Bhakra Dam. Together they are called Bhakra Nangal Dam. The Bhakra Nangal multi-purpose dams are first among the river valley development schemes taken by the government post independence. It is one of the highest gravity dams in the world. The Gobindsagar reservoir created by the dam is the third largest reservoir in India. It holds water in right ways and prevents the fields from being damaged during monsoons. Bilaspur was initially was known as Kahlur, a princely state during the British era.
