Bir Market
Bir Market is a streetside market with several eateries and shops. Local people and residents of the nearby areas come for utilities like food, clothing, and other items while tourists spend capital time picking up souvenirs. Bir Market is also referred to as the Bir Road Bazaar or simply Bir Road and is located on the way to Bir town. Please note that this different than the main Bir Road.
The market area is an assemblage of interesting and lively local shops that sell varieties of products at good prices. It has a little something for everyone. Several stalls exhibit a wide range of products that celebrate the rich culture and tradition of Tibet. Perhaps, those items that reflect Tibet, in a nutshell, are the reason why the market area remains the most cherished area in Bir by tourists. A trip to Bir is not worthwhile without halting a few hours at the lively market.

Bir Tea Factory
The Bir Cooperative Tea Factory is located near the Bir Bazaar Road and is another tourist spot in the area.
With tea gardens and plantations brimming around town, this factory manufactures local tea in this region. It also offers tours for tourists through the factory. You are sure to leave with an insight into the tea manufacturing process and a curious desire for Bir's local tea!
Chokling Monastery
Chokling Monastery or Pema Ewan Chogar Gyurme Ling Monastery is one of the main attractions of Bir. It houses a grand and colossal stupa as well as an enthralling statue of Padmasambhava. This monastery is located in the Bir Tibetan colony.
It was established in the 1960s, after the annexation of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China. It was constructed under the direction of Neten Chokling Pema Gyurme and is currently headed by Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, the third son of Neten Chokling Rinpoche III. The monastery is divided into a passageway, a temple and a prayer hall. A picturesque statue of Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpoche, who was a Buddhist master of the 8th Century, from the Indian subcontinent, is placed in the centre of the temple and the passageway is heavily decorated with sculptures. A monks’ quarter, as well as a 3-year retreat centre, are also present in the compound. Visitors can even sit through the prayers along with the lamas. On rare occasions, the lamas perform ritual dances which are worth watching, if one wishes to learn more of the Tibetan culture.

Deer Park Institute
The Deer Park Institute is a centre for the study of classical Indian wisdom traditions where you can enrol in programs on meditation, philosophy, art and culture, Yoga and healing arts, Buddhism and more. If you are here for a shorter period, check out the occasional meditation retreats and workshops or just drop by for sightseeing.
Deer Park was incorporated in 2006 by Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, who also heads Dzongsar Khyentse Chokyi Lodro. He is also a film director who is known by his pen name Khyentse Norbu. The Institute of Deer Park is ideal for people who desire to study Buddhism on a deeper level. The institute offers academic as well as non-academic programs and workshops, which last from two days to a month. Some of the most popular courses offered by the institute include Buddhist and Indian Philosophy, film making, writing, photography, classic languages such as Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan, Chinese as well as meditation retreats. It is prevalent among foreigners, and around 5000 students from around the globe have enrolled themselves for various courses of studies. A Buddhist Monastic Institute previously used the campus.

Located in Ghornola, 3 km northwest of Bir, the Dharmalaya Institute is an eco-campus where one can volunteer for a number of environmental programmes such as organic farming, sustainable village development, green building etc. Courses for a number of recreational activities like meditation and yoga are also offered here.
One can stay here for long term programmes as well as participate in a shorter workshop. The institute prides itself on its compassionate code of conduct that is expected to be followed by guests and visitors. Nestled deep in the forest for good reason, Dharmalaya Institute prefers staying undisturbed. Visitors should make prior appointments before visiting the institute. Hang Gliding in Bir Billing
Another adventure sport which majorly attracts adventure seekers from all over the country, hang gliding is a popular sport which requires training for participation. Billing(14 km) is the launchpad for the hand gliders and Bir is the landing site.
Hang Gliding was first introduced in Bir in 1980. Since then, it has been one of the major attractions of tourists in the area. Bir- Billing is even listed as one of the most beautiful sites for the sport. Interested people can undergo a training program in the Aero Sports Complex of Bir, which is run by the HTDC. Bir-Billing has hosted five national and three international hand gliding events. It has also been organising annual tournaments every year.

Palpung Sherabling Monastery
The Palpung Sherabling Monastery, located at Keori near Bir, is a religious centre of eastern Tibet that offers Buddhist studies and other forms of living art and culture along with Periodic courses in Buddhist meditation and philosophy.
The monastery is divided into the old structure and new structure. This creates quite a confusion amongst tourists as the two lie at quite a distance from each other. It is one of the branches of Palpung Monastery of Eastern Tibet. Palpung means ‘glorious union of study and practice’. The monastery complex has a school, college and university to learn about the past, present and future of Buddha. More than 1200 monks are in the institute. Apart from Buddhist studies, people can also learn about music, dance, crafts and research on Ayurvedic and Tibetan medicines. The structures have a modern look to them, yet retains the Tibetan art and influence in every square inch. The monastery houses an enormous stupa of Maitri Budh, the one who is yet to come. One who visits the monastery must, if possible, sit through the prayers, which are performed most grandly with chants and gongs. The Lamas perform the Mahakal Lama dance on certain days. The monastery complex is massive and has 250 monks’ quarters, 3 shrine halls, 6 shrine rooms, 4 retreat centres for monks and nuns, individual cabins for practitioners, museum, dispensary, cafe, canteen that serves traditional dishes, parking space and small shops selling assorted items, including miniatures and flags. The complex sits in the middle of the forest, at the foot of the Himalayas, surrounded by pine trees. Though isolated, owing to its location, the area is well connected to roads.
