St. James Cape Town

St. James is a seaside village on the Cape Peninsula situated between the rocky shore and a steep mountain. It lies just past Muizenberg enroute to Kalk Bay and is famous for its beautiful beach, Victorian-era bathing boxes, colourful beach huts, rock pools and surf spots. The area right above the town is also very popular for hiking. Boyes Drive is a street right above St. James and is the ideal place to spot whales between July and December. It is recommended to visit during low tide. St James derives its name from the Church of St. James, built there in 1874. Two Oceans Aquarium, located at Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town houses over 8,000 creatures and more than 300 species. It is located at the place where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meet, hence the name Two Oceans. You can experience an underwater forest at the tranquil Kelp Forest, which is the biggest attraction of this aquarium. The aquarium has a predator exhibit, the home of ragged-tooth sharks, territorial rock cod, and giant yellowtail. It has the first display of one of its kind, the I&J Ocean Exhibit, which includes a 10-metre tunnel filled with 1.6 million litres of seawater with turtles and stingrays in it. Tygerberg Nature Reserve

Tygerberg Nature Reserve is hidden in the hills of the northern suburb of Cape Town. This reserve is famous for birdwatching and hiking. From the top, experience breathtaking views of the city of Table mountain and Robbin Island. False Bay coastline is also visible if there's a clear sky. This 388-hectare nature reserve is home to 137 bird species, including 24 mammals, reptiles, a variety of butterflies, and 562 plant species, some of which are endemic to Cape Town. It has a designated picnic spot under the pine shade accessible from the Welgemoed gate. It is wheelchair and pram friendly. To know a little more about the land and the reserve, visit the Kristo Pioneer Environmental Educational Center, aided with audio-visual equipment, a library, and a lecture hall offering educational resources on the rich biodiversity. The Cellar and Vineyard tours provide an overview of the vineyards with stops at special ones, the gravitational flow cellar, and the underground barrel vault. The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art is the largest contemporary art museum in Africa. Located at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, it showcases contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, in the world. Apart from its exhibits, the architecture of the museum is what attracts both tourists and locals. Built out of the iconic Grain Silo Complex, the Zeitz Museum is 9500 sq. m and rises to nine floors. A not-for-profit institute, it features permanent and temporary exhibits. There are exhibits collected by Jochen Zeitz (a partner along with V&A Waterfront in the commissioning of the museum). These include displays by renowned artists, such as Kehinde Wiley, Chris Ofili, Glenn Ligon, Kudzanai Chiurai, and more. The museum structure includes a space for 80 galleries, conservation and storage areas, a sculptured rooftop garden, a restaurant, bookstore, reading rooms, and a bar. There is also the Centre for Art Education, a space for emerging talented artists, and the Centre for the Moving Image.
