Grand Canyon Water Park
The Grand Canyon of Chiang Mai is an old quarry filled with water that was popular for swimming and cliff jumping. Now, it has been converted into a water park with waterslides, splash pools, watercraft, and obstacle courses. The Grand Canyon also has a cable-tow wakeboarding area, two zip lines, kayaks, and a food court area.
Hang Dong
Hang Dong is a district of Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand, mostly famous for its trade in antiques and handicrafts. It is a thriving center where one can find great collectibles of traditional art and handmade crafts belonging to Thai culture. Also popular as the Grand Canyon, it houses a quarry surrounded by a lake and the Grand Canyon water park.
Some other attractions in the area are the Dokmai Garden, Op Khan National Park, and several stunning Buddhist temples.The production and manufacturing of handmade handicrafts, antiques, furniture, and woodcarvings boosted the popularity of the little town of Hang Dong. Huay Kaew Waterfall
A seasonal waterfall, the Huay Kaew Waterfall is the closest waterfall to the Chiang Mai City, located at the bottom of the Doi Suthep Mountain Range National Park, right next to the Chiang Mai Zoo. One of the major attractions of this place is the breathtaking view from the waterfall, which are picturesque because of its natural beauty. There are also small pools of water to dip in which make the Huay Kaew Waterfall enjoyable for adults and children alike.
Being a seasonal waterfall, the water does dry out during the summers. However, it is full after the rains, making the place nice, cool and refreshing. Huay Tung Tao Lake
Huay Tung Tao Lake, a man-made reservoir, is a stunning waterside location outside Chiang Mai to spend the day. It features a gorgeous view of the Doi Suthep mountains, calming waters, and grass huts peppered along the landscape. It has dozens of restaurants with seating floating atop the lake where you can grab a bite, order a drink, lay back, and relax.
The Huay Tung Tao Lake was built by His Majesty King Bhumibol to solve water scarcity issues in the area. Now, it has become a popular attraction between tourists and locals alike. Not only can you swim in the stunning Huay Tung Tao Lake, but there are swan boats and floats that can be rented to laze in the water. Beside the lake is a two-lane jogging track, a quad-bike course, and even a field of quirky straw sculptures to explore. Located less than half an hour from Chiang Mai, Huay Tung Tao Lake is one of the area’s most popular picnic and day trip destinations.

Inthakhin Festival
Also known as the Lak Mueang Festival, the Inthakhin Festival is a ceremony venerating the city pillar of Chiang Mai. Wat Chedi Luang becomes the centre of religious ceremonies since the city pillar, Inthakhin, is enshrined within the compound of this temple. It is a big event, complete with dances, music, carnivals, food stalls and locals parading in traditional Thai attires.

One of the quieter markets in the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, the Kalare Night Bazaar is an arcade which hosts a string of shops that cater to all of a visitor's needs, right from clothes and jewellery to gifting options and tour operators. The market is known for its dining options which offer a plethora of cuisines, and its entertainment spaces which organise fascinating performances.
Rincome Night Bazaar
The Rincome Night Bazaar, located next to Maya Mall, is a small night market in Chiang Mai. It is popular as the University Market, due to its close proximity to Chiang Mai University, and is a local favourite among the youth. Shops sell everything from street food, clothes, accessories, bags, manicures and crafts, at cheap prices beginning from as low as THB 40.
Kham Tiang Flower Market
With its extensive display of colourful plants and fragrant flowers, the Kham Tiang Flower Market is a photographer's paradise. It is mainly accessed by locals looking to spruce up their gardens with different varieties of tropical plants, and even garden ornaments. This market has many shops and nurseries, to ensure that no one returns empty handed.
Khun Chang Khian
Khun Chang Khian is a quaint little village managed by Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Agriculture. It is a major bio-hotspot where several exotic species are found, making it a centre for agro-research. It is best known for the magnificent pink cherry blossoms, known locally as the Tiger Queen, which give a feel of Japan in Thailand.
Lanna Folklife Museum
Located opposite the Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Centre, Lanna Folklife Museum is an exhibition celebrating the traditions of the ancient Lanna Kingdom. It has 18 exhibits depicting everyday activities from local life, with realistic life-sized wax statues of people. They are accompanied by information boards that describe the scenes in Thai, Mandarin, and English.
