Brookfield Zoo
Brookfield Zoo or the Chicago Zoological Park is home to over 450 species and sees around two million guests every year. It is spread across 216-acres and is managed by the Chicago Zoological Society. The zoo has around 20 exhibits and it organizes various community and corporate events as well as family play programs. Some of the animals in the zoo are Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic walrus, African lions, Snow leopards, and many more.
Brookfield Zoo is situated in the Chicago suburb of Brookfield, Illinois. It opened in 1934 to the public and was the first in America to have giant pandas. In 1980s, it became that time’s largest indoor zoo exhibit in the world. It is dedicated to provide immersive experience to the visitors while ensuring animal care and safety. The zoo offers membership programs and has some free visit days too. Visitors can also pre-book special experiences like feeding a giraffe, penguin encounters, tree trim, or some seasonal events. Calumet Beach
Nestled just steps away from the Indiana border, Calumet Beach is one beach in Chicago that’s least populated.
The name of the beach is named as a way of tribute to the region of Calumet. This region is surrounded by several communities from the south side and the Calumet River.The long stretch of the beach’s shoreline is an optimal place for gatherings either with friends or families. The beach is part of Calumet Park, which is a 200-acre park that houses ball fields, a playground, a boat launch, and various concession stands. Distance swimming is available only if it’s done parallel to the shoreline.
