Bellanwila Raja Maharaja Viharaya
Colombo is studded with temples, but Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara occupies a special place as one of the country’s most venerated Buddhist shrines. Adorned with murals of Buddha as well as Hindu gods, the temple features a central shrine and smaller shrines dedicated to popular deities of Sri Lanka such as Vishnu, Saman and Vibheeshana. Thousands of devotees flock to worship Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara’s sacred Bo tree, supposedly the first offshoot of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura.

Economic History Museum of Sri Lanka
Also known as Economic History Museum, Currency Museum in the Greco-Roman Central Point building has a collection dating back to the 3rd century BC. Open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, the Currency Museum displays coins from Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kotte Kingdoms era, the Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial eras through to Ceylon’s modern days, commemorative coins and notes.
Diyatha Uyana
Tucked between the Parliament complex and Polduwa junction, Diyatha Uyana is a well-maintained public park constructed on marshy land on the banks of Lake Diyawanna Oya. As one of Colombo’s most picturesque places, this park features scenic walking paths past gardens and ponds with graceful swans, shaded picnic spots, and a children’s park.
Some shopping stalls selling souvenirs, handicrafts, flower pots, ornamental fish and tasty food also sit within the park.

Excel World Entertainment Park
Excel World Entertainment Park is an amusement park with rides, video games, bowling, a pool lounge, and laser tag for kids and adults. While its most prominent attraction is Snow World, the park houses thrilling rides like pirate ships, horseback carousels, fancy trains, and bumper car rides.
In addition, the food court offers elaborate menus of street eats, Indian, Italian and Lankan cuisines, and beverage menus.
Independence Square
Located in the Cinnamon Gardens district, Independence Square was built in 1948 to commemorate Sri Lanka gaining independence from the British Empire. The present-day square includes manicured fountain gardens, ponds, and the grand Independence Memorial Hall, immortalizing those who fought to preserve the Sri Lankan identity during colonisation. It is a popular picnic spot.
Kanatte General Cemetery
Locally called Borella Cemetery, Kanatte General Cemetery is Colombo's main burial ground and crematorium since 1866. With over 120,000 graves, the hauntingly beautiful cemetery is the final resting place of the sci-fi legend Sir Arthur C. Clarke and Commonwealth war heroes. There are 360 War Graves, including those of a German soldier, a German merchant seaman, a German interned civilian, and an Austrian nursing sister and a War Cross are erected.

Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya
Kotte Raja Maha Vihara is a historic Buddhist temple in Colombo, built in the late 1400s by King Parakumbha VI. The temple is home to essential artefacts like a kabok tunnel used by the Queen to escape during enemy invasions, ancient drawings on walls, and bronze plates engraved with Makara Thorana. Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya has an ironwood (Na) tree instead of a bo tree like other temples, worshipped by devotees.
Lionel Wendt Art Centre
Lionel Wendt Art Centre is a major art gallery and theatre in Colombo, erected in the memory of the Sri Lankan photographic artist Lionel Wendt. The cultural venue combines art exhibitions and live theatre, with two exhibit galleries dedicated to painting, sculpture and photography. The theatre has over 600 seats and airs dramas, ballet and music performances. A cafeteria is also available, serving snacks, sweets and beverages.
Lotus Tower
The Colombo Lotus Tower is the tallest tower in South Asia, standing at 356 meters. It features high-end shopping malls, hotels with suites, viewing decks, ballrooms and banquet halls, restaurants, museums, and auditoriums. At the top is a revolving restaurant overlooking panoramic city views.
Mount Lavinia Beach
Famed for its "Golden Mile" of scenic blond coastline, Mount Lavinia Beach offers a mile-long stretch of sand, gentle waves, lifeguards, fancy hotels, pubs, and restaurants. It's known for its serene atmosphere and beautiful sunsets. The beach has various water sports, including surfing, bodyboarding, and jet skiing.
Along the shore, you'll find a range of restaurants, cafes, and bars offering a variety of cuisines, from local Sri Lankan dishes to international fare.
