Sykes Point

Named after a British Engineer, Sykes Point is a famous viewpoint in the city. Tourists mostly visit the point to witness the beautiful top view of the Dandeli Valley covered with dense forests, observe several exotic species in their natural habitats and watch the confluence of River Kali and River Nagzari.

Located near River Kali in the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, Syntheri Rock is a gigantic limestone rock formed ages ago due to volcanic activities in the region. One has to climb about 400 steps to reach the top of this monolithic structure which is also a perfect spot to get a panoramic view of the Dandeli Valley.

Ulavi Temple is dedicated to Channabasavanna, who was a Lingayat Saint in 12th century India. The temple is, therefore, considered to be highly sacred for the Lingayat community. Situated in the Western Ghats of India, amidst lush green natural surroundings, the temple offers a tranquil escape from the stressful city life and attracts tourists in large numbers.

A paradise for wildlife lovers, Kali Tiger Reserve is located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It covers an area of 834.16 sq km and has been recognised as the second largest wildlife sanctuary in the state. Declared as the National Wildlife Sanctuary in 1956, it is home to a variety of flora and fauna including tigers, woodpeckers, hornbills, kingfishers, leopards, elephants, etc. It was renamed from Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to Kali Tiger Reserve in 2015. Along with the nearby Anshi National Park, Kali Tiger Reserve houses around 40 tigers. The entire forest area is covered with a mixture of dense deciduous and evergreen vegetation interspersed with bamboo and teak plants. Available in the early morning and during sunset, you can take the jungle safari to explore the wildlife. Fishing, trekking, crocodile sighting and white water rafting in the river Kali that flows through the sanctuary are some of the other adventures you can go for in the jungle. Read More
