Regional Science Centre Dehradun

The Regional Science Centre at Vigyan Dham, Jhajra in Dehradun, is a newly established science park. It features a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits and installations to educate people, especially children. It houses exhibits on nuclear power generation, robotics, cloud computing, carbon nano-tube & graphene and more. The Regional Science Centre spans an area of approximately 30,450 square metres and comprises the main building and the Science Park. It has a Himalaya Gallery which focuses on the geography, geology, tourism, cultural and traditional knowledge of the Himalayas and also has a replica of the Amarnath Caves. Other features of the building include a Fun Science Gallery, Frontiers of Technology Gallery, 3D Theatre, Innovation Hub (a laboratory equipped with tools and instruments to encourage innovation), a large auditorium, library etc. Moving outside, the Science Park is known for its Dinosaur Park, Perspective House, Whispering Garden, Musical Bar, Birding Cage, Sympathetic Swing, a planetarium and more. Dedicated to Shirdi Sai Baba, the Sai Darbar Temple in Dehradun is situated along Rajpur Road. It is frequented by a plethora of devotees who come to pay their tribute to Sai Baba by offering chadars, flowers and sweets, and to attend the aarti organised every evening. Set amidst the peaceful mountains, Sai Temple is admired for its marble structure which is adorned with several colourful glass paintings. It also houses an idol of Sai Baba. The Subir Raha Oil Museum in Dehradun, Uttarakhand is located within Tel Bhawan on the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) premises. Named after the ex-chairman and MD of ONGC, it was established to showcase the different stages of the oil and gas value chain. The museum also depicts the industrial history of petroleum in India as well as the process of conservation of fossil fuels. The museum is divided into sections so as to provide a comprehensive idea of the history and of the value chain. The oil museum, which has 2 floors, has three sections. The first one has on display the history of oil; there are samples of crude oil along with a number of flow charts to explain their properties at different temperatures. The second section focuses on the process of exploration and subsequently the production of oil whereas the third section depicts the various methods of oil refinement and transportation. For a more immersive experience, there is an audio-visual room at the museum which provides visitors with an insight into India’s oil industry and also about the journey of the ONGC.
