Harangi Dam
The Harangi Dam is set against a scenic and quiet setting over a small rivulet called Harangi river of the important Kaveri river. The Harangi river originates in the Pushpagiri hills of the Western Ghats and being the only reservoir in the region of Coorg, and it holds great tranquil and picturesque value. The engineering construction stands tall at 47 meters in height and 846 meters (2775 feet) in length. The Dubare forest area covers the place with its verdant trees and grasslands. It is located near the settlement of Kushal Nagar, famous for its Tibetan ethnicity.
The construction of Harangi Dam started in 1970's and was opened for operation in the year 1982. The height of the dam 53 m and the boundary of the dam stretches for 845 m. It is a large dam, the reservoir of the dam is spread across the area of 420 sq km. It is a hydroelectric and irrigation project, which was built to produce hydropower and it is also used for irrigation purposes in the nearby areas. The dam is operated by Karnataka irrigation department. The primary source of water supply to Harangi dam is the southwest monsoon that hits the region in the month of July-October. The water level rises during this period and water is released, making is the best time to visit the dam.

Nisargadhama
Nisargadhama is a breathtaking and beautiful island that is located 2 km from Kushalnagar and around 30 km from Madikeri. This fantastic island is formed by the river Kaveri and spreads over 64 acres. The picturesque picnic spot is adorned with lush foliage of thick bamboo groves, teak trees and sandalwood, with lovely riverside cottages. Elephant rides and boating are some of the other popular attractions here. Nisargadhama also has a forest department run guest house and treetop bamboo cottages.
The island needs to be accessed through a hanging rope bridge. A myriad of animals, including deer, rabbits and peacocks dwell here. Nisargadhama also houses a children's playground as well as an orchidarium. An ecological park, which is equally enjoyed by people of all ages, can also be found here. In addition, the place also has a small snack house and a deer park. Tourists are even allowed to get into the water at a few shallow and safe points along the river.
