Durban Botanical Gardens

Durban Botanical Gardens

The oldest surviving botanical gardens in Africa, the Durban Botanical Gardens provide a captivating insight into flora and fauna of the region. In addition, the garden has unique smaller gardens to display these types, such as the breathtaking Orchid House or the award-winning Sensory Garden, tea garden, and herbarium. These botanical gardens, located on the Botanical Gardens Road, are a lovely escape from the bustling city. The beautiful, diverse, and colourful collection of flora on display makes for a very soothing environment. There are several exotic plants in the gardens, like various cycads, orchids, bromeliads and so on, along with over a thousand individual trees to add to the aura. The diverse flora of the garden naturally attracts beautiful butterflies, bees, frogs, and a host of birds. The gardens also host musical concerts and many exhibitions. Spread over a massive 40 acreas, the park is home to the world's fifth largest aquarium - uShaka Sea World, the Wet'n Wild water park with several rides and also the southern hemisphere's highest slide, the authentic and sandy uShaka beach for relaxation, and a Village Walk dedicated to show the visitors the life in a normal African village. The aquarium is uShaka's biggest attraction in itself. It is home to several species of shark, large fish, and rays. Also, you can do more than just stand from a distance and view these creatures. uShaka also offers many snorkelling and scuba diving activities into the lagoon. Dive into the blue waters among the fish and the rays, and get a perspective that is otherwise impossible. There are animal shows as well, such as the popular Dolphin Show.
