Teo Chew Temple
Situated in southwest Houston, Teo Chew Temple is a Vietnamese Buddhist Temple with fancy rooftops and huge chambers. Teo Chew Temple has an elaborate fountain that has 12 zodiac animals carved on the marble base. Legend has it that if you toss a coin in the fountain, your wish is likely to come true. Above the fountain is the statue of Quan Am, the Chinese Goddess who is considered to be an equivalent to Queen Mary.
The compound has red picnic tables with open-air gazebos and stone lions that symbolise protection. The temple lays emphasis on ancestral worship and accepts gifts of food. In one building, people pray to 14 different Gods. In the other building, people conduct ancestral worship as there are urns and memorials of their deceased loved ones. Here, they pay homage, offer flowers and incense. With bright red and golden hues that symbolise power and prosperity, Teo Chew Temple is something one shouldn’t miss.

Terry Hershey Park
Named after Terry Hershey, Terry Hershey Park is a county park acquired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1940s.
Nestled along the banks of South Mayde Creek and Buffalo Bayou in western Houston, Texas, the park sits on a 500-acre land, and features some of the best off-road bike trails in the country. This park is a popular destination among the cyclists, locals, runners, and Geocachers. And there’s also a walk-in sundial that will tell you the time, depending on where your shadow is when you stand on a particular stone. You’ll also find gazebos, workout stations, multiple picnic spots, and a playground within the park.

Texas Buddhist Association
Founded in 1979, Texas Buddhist Association is a non-profit religious organisation that aims at promoting the right values of Dharma through its religious ceremonies and educational endeavours. The association fosters values like brotherhood, unity, kindness, compassion, serenity, joyfulness and service to mankind. It is an umbrella organisation that started with its first centre, Buddha’s Light Temple in 1984.
It further went ahead and established the Jade Buddha Temple in 1989 and the American Bodhi Centre in 2000. The building reflects Buddhist and Chinese architecture. Prayers are offered in the main prayer hall in front of a giant Buddha statue. People also meditate in the hall and spend some quiet time around the pond situated in the temple compound.

An ideal area for nature lovers, Honey Hole, is 15 acres of Wooded Rolling land which comprises a 4-acre fresh swimming pond for its visitors at the campsite. Honey hole is more of a retreat than a campsite because of the multiple facilities that are provided to them by the hosts at Honey Hole. The 15 acres further comprises three smaller camps that vary from each other to provide a broader range of stays for its visitors.
The 15 feet deep swimming pond is also stocked with a bunch of friendly fish like the largemouth bass, bluegill and tilapia. The pond water stays relatively cool throughout the year, making swimming a must during the stay of visitors. They also have paddle boats that are there to whirl around the lake. Lake Livingston is also very close to the campsite where visitors can go fishing and boating.
