East Beach, located at the far eastern tip of Galveston Island is the ultimate party destination. It is renowned for the beach parties, festivals, and live concerts held throughout the summer months. The annual American Institute of Architects (AIA) Sandcastle competition is held on the first weekend of June every year on the beach, which is a crowd gathering event. The beach is equipped with a pavilion, boardwalk, entertainment stage, restrooms, showers, chair & umbrella rentals, and much more. El Jardin Beach is a city-owned beach, a popular spot amongst the locals for family outings by the sea. The beach is not frequented by tourists and to its advantage; for it remains relatively un-crowded. It is a small beach yet it is rich in marine life and vegetation. It is also equipped with park benches, picnic tables, barbecue pits, and electric outlets. Dogs are allowed on the beach but they must be kept on a leash. Renowned as the oldest park in Texas and the oldest in Houston, Emancipation Park was once known to be the only park open to the African-Americans. Due to its rich history, the park is considered being one of the most important areas in the city.
