Huay Xai Tourism
Welcome to the enchanting world of Huay Xai, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Southeast Asia. Huay Xai Tourism promises a unique blend of cultural richness, natural beauty, and unforgettable experiences. As you set out on your adventure, get ready to be enthralled by the warmth and charm that this place has to offer. From its vibrant markets to its serene landscapes, Huay Xai is a traveler's paradise waiting to be explored.Huay Xai is a town in northwestern Laos situated on the border with Thailand along the Mekong River. It serves as a gateway for travellers entering Laos from Thailand and is known for its proximity to the Gibbon Experience, a popular eco-tourism attraction. Huay Xai's strategic location as a border town and its proximity to natural attractions make it an interesting stop for travellers exploring the northern regions of Laos. Whether embarking on the Gibbon Experience, taking a Mekong River journey, or using it as a starting point for further exploration, Huay Xai offers a mix of adventure and cultural experiences.
Huay Xai, also known as Ban Houayxay, is the capital of the Bokeo fiefdom in Laos. Huay Xai lies on the border of Thailand, by the side of the great Mekong swash. It's substantially a layover megacity for excursionists travelling between Laos and Thailand by land.
There's nothing important to do in the city for excursionists in terms of lodestones , but it's worth spending a day or two to respect the laidback life by the Mekong swash and enjoy the green, lush Laotian country.
Things to Do in Huay Xai
If you are entering Laos by land in the north intending to make your way to Luang Prabang by river, the busy little river port of Huay Xai will be your first glimpse of the country. In Bokeo Province, at the heart of the Golden Triangle, Huay Xai has long been a busy trading and transit point. Mule caravans passed through here on their way from Yunnan Province in southern China to the northern Siamese capital of Chiang Mai, laden with opium and tea. Although most people transit through here by jumping directly on a Luang Prabang-bound boat down the Mekong, Huay Xai is worth stopping in for a day or two. With the Mekong at your front and rugged hills at your back, you are not far from ethnic minorities and some spectacular and unspoiled natural beauty. It was also recently discovered that Bokeo has one of the last remaining populations of black-cheeked gibbons in Laos. An innovative canopy forest camp, called the Gibbon Experience, has been developed to provide travellers with the opportunity to see and hear the black-cheeked gibbon. From Houay Xai, you can make day trips to ethnic Lantaen villages, where the production of traditional Saa paper and other crafts can be seen.
Visit the sauna : The sauna is run by the Red Cross and employs the original people. The ticket price is relatively low and is really an excellent way to spend a comforting day. The sauna also includes massage service, and you can try one of the herbal teas.
Sunset over the Mekong: There is nothing like seeing an evening over the potent Mekong swash. Take a bite of succulent, original food in one of the numerous cafés along the swash and enjoy the golden shafts of the setting Sun. There are private and group boat tenures that last for about 1 to 2 hours and bring around 50 to 80 USD per person, which can be directly reserved with the boat drivers.
