Phubala
Located near the western borders of the Loktak Lake, Phubala has many attractions. Water sports can be carried out at the two islands that are situated amidst the Lake. A picturesque view of the lake can be enjoyed by the tourists.
Shaheed Minar
This 11 m tall tower is situated in the centre of the Bir Tirkendrajit Park and is a memorial for those who died against the British while fighting in the Meitei Revolt in 1891.
Shri Govindjee Temple
Situated near the royal palace, this temple is one of the major ones in Manipur and is constructed in the Nagara style of architecture. It is dedicated to Shree Govindajee along with various other Hindu Gods and Goddesses viz Krishna, Balaram, Jagannath, Subhadra etc.
Singda Dam
The highest mud dam in the world is the Singda Dam. Singda, located 16 km from the capital city of Imphal, is located at a height of about meters above sea level. It is a popular picnic spot, with its scenic views, and relative calm.
Sirohi National Park
Located in the Ukhrul district of Imphal in Manipur, very close to the India- Myanmar border, Sirohi National Park is the smallest forest reserve of the country spread over a tiny area of just 41 sq km. It was only declared a national park in 1982, and is popular for housing a whopping variety of birds, flowering plants and exotic animal species. Most of its significance comes from the fact that it is the only natural habitat of the Sirohi Lily or LiliumMaclineae which only grows here and nowhere else in the world. A mountain peak called the Sirohi Peak is situated in the forest where the exotic flowers blooms once every year between the months of May and June. The phenomenon attracts a whole lot of naturalists, scientists, biologists and environmentalists to come to the place. Besides the hill top offers sweeping views of the valley below and the surrounding panoramic greenery. A lot of rivers originate from the peak and flow downwards making the environment look like a veritable paradise.
Flora and FaunaThe unmatched beauty of the national park is replete with undisturbed ecosystem .Besides the exotic Sirohi flower species, the forest reserve has a limited bio-diversity. Some of the wild animals habitating the place are wild boar, deer, tigers, leopards and antelopes etc. Other avifauna species include Mrs. Hume’s bar backed pheasant, owls, vultures, warblers, pheasants, tits, eagles and Blyth’s tragopan etc. The lower area is covered in tropical dense forests while the hill tops have temperate vegetation. Permits to Enter the ParkTo visit the park, you will need special permits from Imphal Forest Deptt’s Chief Wildlife Warden.Things to Do at Sirohi National Park1. Sirohi- Khayang PeakLocated at an elevation of 3114 metres above the sea level, the peak is considered the ideal spot for trekking. Besides, it offers sweeping views of the valley below, mesmerising views of the sunset and an overall enchanting vibe.2. Sirohi- Khangkhui CavesMade of natural limestone, Khangkhui caves are natural caves where the people took refuge during world war 2. The caves also have a huge hall known as a Darbar Hall which is the highlight of the destination for the tourists. Located amidst dense woods and hilly terrain, the spooky caves are sure to give you an adrenaline rush.3. Sirohi- Ukhrul TownThe town of Ukhrul is located at just 5 kms from the national park. Tharon Cave
A 655.6 m long cave, this cave can be explored inside out by enthusiasts, with the help of the map drawn outside the cave. It attracts tourists interested in an adventurous experience. It is also spelled as the Thaeuluan Cave.
Three Mothers Art Gallery
Located within the premises of Thangapat Mapal Palace Compound in Imphal East, Three Mothers Art Gallery is a museum that showcases the rich culture, tradition, history and heritage of the state through Driftwood Sculpture Art. The art gallery cum museum is run by the artist Shri Gurumayum Shyamsunder Sharma and the museum is situated in a single shed like room within an area of 1000 square feet. Established in 1978, the art gallery is named so because it signifies the three mothers - motherland, mother tongue and mother of self.
The art works exhibited in the museum link all the ideas to the natural roots of the trees. The gallery exhibits are considered unique as they are all carved from a single piece of tree- the roots. Among the most notable items in the museum are chairs animal figures, carvings of famous personalities and other mythological figurines. Other than that, there are pieces with carved battle scenes on wood, indigenous wildlife, mythological creatures with bodies of half humans and half animals. The artist was even lauded by the Limca Book of Records for his work called the Wooden Artistic Figure (Symbol of Peace) in 2005. The themes of all his artistic works are inspired from either nature, mythology or history.
