Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie (VOC) Galangan is an old shipyard in Batavia. This shipyard served as an important commercial link for the Dutch during the VOC era. The shipyard originally had four faces but now it has two main buildings which have Chinese cafe and restaurant. Many other events like weddings and birthdays occasionally happen here as well. VOC Galangan is an interesting place where one can catch a glimpse of the 18th Century Dutch shipyards and warehouses that stood on the side. Welcome Monument

Welcome Monument

The Welcome Monument or Selamat Detang Monument is one of the many monuments built by President Sukarno in 1962 for the Asian Games. Placed at the middle of a fountain, this monument shows figures of a boy and a girl waving their hands in a welcoming gesture while the girl carries a bouquet. Due to its prime location, it is now an important historical landmark. The Welcome Monument was designed by Henk Ngantung and sculpted by Edhi Sunarso. The two figures are placed atop a pedestal and are 5 metres long. The entire monument is 30 metres above the ground.
