Museum MACAN
The Museum MACAN, or the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara, houses a large collection of modern and contemporary art from Indonesia and around the world. Famous for its active exhibitions, its chief highlight is the stunning masterpieces of Yayoi Kusama, a pioneer in contemporary art.
The museum is over 7000 square meters and was initially built to house businessman Haryanto Adikoesoemo’s private collection of over 800 Indonesian artists. Museum MACAN also hosts several events and workshops for the modern art community. It also offers resources to teachers and students to initiate a dialogue about art.

National Museum Indonesia
The National Museum of Indonesia provides insight into Indonesian culture and history. It is popularly known as Gedung Gajah or Elephant building due to the large elephant statue at the entrance. The museum has a free English tour.

Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi
Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi or Formulation of Proclamation Text Museum is the place where the Proclamation of Independence was formed in 1984. This is where the Japanese Navy Commander and supporter of Indonesia freedom Tadashi Maeda worked on the final draft of the proclamation. Today it has wax sculptures of historically important people. Visitors enjoy this museum while listening to old BBC or NIROM broadcasts.
This historic building was transformed into a museum owing to its role in the formulation of the independence proclamation text. It was inaugurated in the year 1992 and has changed many hands since. It is divided into four sections, each of which exhibits artefacts related to the independence proclamation text.

The Jakarta History Museum, also known as Fatahillah Museum, is one of the largest museums in Old Jakarta Town. It is filled with more than 23,000 artifacts from the Dutch civilization and various Indonesian kingdoms. It has 27 ornately adorned rooms filled with articles that chronicle the city's history, from when it was founded as Jayakarta to when it was rechristened Batavia and when it became independent.
Museum Sejarah Jakarta is popular for its 17th-century architectural style. It is spread over an area of 1300 square metres and also houses a pond. In addition to the archaeological excavations, Museum Sejarah Jakarta also exhibits stone inscriptions, ceramics and earthenware. It is often regarded as a recreational destination where one can also increase their knowledge of Jakartan culture.

Museum Seni Rupah Dan Keramik or Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramic is a resplendent display of the traditional art and ceramics of Indonesia. Museum Wayang or Puppet Museum is a magnificent display of the Javan Wayang form of puppetry, exhibiting a huge collection of classic flat wooden puppets. Situated opposite Fatahillah Square, it displays puppets portraying characters from across Indonesia, China, Vietnam, India, Cambodia, and Europe, housed within its vintage cabinets. During the weekends, they have grand performances on interesting themes.
Built in the early-1900s, the building that houses the Wayang Museum is itself a heritage structure. At first glance, some of the puppets displayed at the museum might seem innocent, colourful and delicate works of art while some might seem slightly frightening. Nonetheless, all the puppets exhibited at the museum represent the characters that come from the culture and traditions of Indonesia. A visit to this attraction is recommended for art lovers.

National Archives Building
National Archives Building is a museum from the VOC period. The former residence of Governer-General Reinier de Klerk is now a major attraction known for its cultural heritage and beautiful Dutch Indies architecture. The collection of the museum includes artefacts from the Dutch administration and maps from the 16th century. The museum also has classic ebony furniture such as dining chairs and tables.
The National Archives Building is a two-storeyed Dutch-style house. It had received the UNESCO Award of Excellence in the year 2001. The building is surrounded by a spacious lush garden, the rear part of which contains a belfry. The locals are allowed to use the beautiful garden as a public facility. The National Archives Building is presently being managed by a foundation without any assistance from the government.
