Kota Bridge

Kota Bridge

Kota Bridge, Klang or Jambatan Kota, Klang is the first double-decker bridge in Malaysia. It is situated in Klang, Selangor, over the Klang River. This destination used to be a people’s favourite to travel across the river, but since then has lost its earlier charm. After the bombing of Belfield Bridge during WWII, the Kota Bridge was built between 1958 and 1960 to travel across the river and it was changed into a reinforced steel truss girder bridge. It was officially opened in 1961 by way of the late Sultan of Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah together with his enthronement as the ninth Sultan of Selangor. In the 1990s, due to the high traffic with the upgraded Federal Highway Route into a six-lane carriageway toll highway from 1991 to 1993. Since then, the upper deck has been converted to public space and no longer allows automobile traffic or strollers, but the lower deck is still used by bikers, cyclists and pedestrians. Read More
