"Bangkok's River Island"

Koh Kret Tourism

Nestled in the heart of Thailand, Koh Kret is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. This enchanting island, situated on the Chao Phraya River, offers a distinctive blend of culture, history, and natural beauty. As a unique tourist destination, Koh Kret boasts a rich heritage that captivates the senses. From its traditional pottery to its serene landscapes, every corner tells a story. Immerse yourself in the allure of Koh Kret, where time seems to stand still, allowing you to witness the authentic charm of Thai culture.

Koh Kret is a small artificial islet in the Chao Phraya River that lies in the fiefdom of Nonthaburi, to the north of Bangkok, Thailand. The islet has an old-world charm and gives a bird's-eye view of its early settlers, elaboration, and culture. Koh Kret is an old village-type islet where Mon people stay( they were one of the first settlers). It's good for a one-day trip if you want to see how people in the past lived in Thailand.

Sticking to their roots, their lives are interwoven with artistic practices reflected in their daily lives and occupations. Crockery is a star magnet and a major source of employment for the locals. Terracotta is another artistic heritage that Koh Kret takes great pride in. For religious sightseeing, Wat Poramai Yikawat is a good option. It's a Buddhist tabernacle with a reclining Buddha and a leaning stupa. Koh Kret has encouraged its culinary heritage by preparing traditional dishes that were prepared for the royal court. These fashions have been passed down to generations and, till date, are fluently available with the most authentic taste. And the same goes for the confections! Koh Kret is completely different from Bangkok. In Koh Kret, people live in a traditional community with a veritably simple life. They stay in rustic with win trees hard their homes. The tabernacles at Koh Kret are old and rustic; therefore, their old-school charms remain. People typically come to Koh Kret to walk around and check out goods in the crockery shops. The population of Koh Kret is generally Mon, which has settled there since the Ayutthaya period. Mon people also have their own traditional Songkran festival at Koh Kret, Amphoe Pak Kret. There are caravans and traditional Monday shows to entertain people for a week after April 13th.

Callers can see the traditional cotillion, which has been inherited for periods. The Mon classical dancing generally accompanies the Mon gamelan. This reckons as a veritably precious heritage to Mon successors at Pak Kret, Phra Pradaeng, and Pathum Thani. Ko Kret is an instinctively constructed islet about 10 long hauls( 17 kilometres) north of central Bangkok that’s completely encircled by the Chao Phraya River. It’s a popular weekend day trip for Bangkok residents, who come substantially for the food, but there are also other sights and lodestones to check out any day of the week. Ko Kret is a small islet in the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi fiefdom, Thailand. It's around 3 km (1.9 mi) long and 3 km (1.9 mi) wide, with an area of over 4.2 square kilometres. It has seven main townlets, the largest and most vibrant being Ban Mon. The islet is best known for Thai-Mon people who make crockery for a living. The islet is served by ferry. The islet dates only to 1722, when 10,000 people were given shovels and put to work digging a conduit to bypass a bend in the Om Kret branch of the Chao Phraya swash. In a month and a half, the 12m wide by 3m deep conduit was completed, which cut trip times on the swash significantly. The swash responded to this roadway by changing course fully, and over the years, the conduit has followed the 30m wide and 10m deep main course of the swash. In 1757, Mon people from southern Myanmar were permitted to settle in areas around the Chao Phraya, including Ko Kret and the conterminous Pak Kret. Due to laws at the time banning nonnatives from husbandry, the Mon people used swash complexions to make traditional crockery. This same group dominates this area at this moment. They've retained a distinct identity in their flavour of Buddhism and, particularly at Ko Kret, their crockery.
