The 8- kilometer-long  journey to Catherine Falls is one of the  numerous highlights of this hill station. With its jagged terrain backed by a peaceful setting, this region is also ideal for  gemstone climbing. Kotagiri is wild and pristine, and there's no better way to  witness the destination than by staying in a homestay. One of the  multitudinous features of this hill station is the 8-kilometer hike to Catherine Falls.   Rock climbing is an excellent exercise in this area due to the  girding mountains and serenity.  One of the three popular hill stations in the Nilgiris, besides Ooty( 29 km), Coonoor( 18 km), and Kotagiri, is your  definitive colony. positioned at an elevation of 5,882 m, the hill station is located in the Nilgiris  quarter of Tamil Nadu. The name Kotagiri means ‘ mountains of the Kotas ’( the Nilgiri hills have been the traditional home of the Kota Tribe).   Kotagiri’s  significance fell when the ghat road from Mettupalayam at the foothills of Coonoor was  erected. Before the Ghat Road was  erected, every  rubberneck going to Ooty had to pass through Kotagiri. Girdled by tea estates and beautiful green  geographies, Kotagiri offers a plenitude of  openings for  touring and  gemstone climbing. Besides  touring, there isn't much to do in Kotagiri except take  tardy ambles through the tea colonies, watch the workers pluck tea leaves, and soak in the cool climate of the region. It is dispensable to say that a visit to one of the tea factories that  feed to  transnational  requests is amusing. The most popular  touring trails in Kotagiri are towards Kodanad, Catherine Falls, and Longwood Shola. The trail leading to Kodanad goes through a meadow, tea estates, and the Moyar River. The major  lodestones  near Kotagiri include Catherine Falls, Elk Falls, Doddabetta Range, and the Rangaswami Pillar. Kodanad Point offers spectacular views of the  girding hills and  denes.

The most stylish time to visit Kotagiri is in October. Unlike in Ooty and Coonoor, the rainfall in Kotagiri is far more affable. It was  before known as Kotakeri and Kotagheri, which means ‘  road of the Kotas ’. In 1911, the government acquired the region, and the Kotas were shifted to Aggal hamlet, about two kilometres down.
