Alcazaba de Malaga

Located on the hilltop in the centre of the city, the Alcazaba is an old Moorish castle that was built in the 11th century. One can get brilliant views of the entire city on climbing up the ramparts. A small palace on the top holds numerous excavations and historical artefacts. Built on the ruins of a Roman bastion, the Alcazaba is an ancient Moorish castle built in the ninth century. The Muslim rulers of the town headed their government from this citadel for many years. Perched on the Mount Gibralfaro, the palace was designed with 110 main towers and three rounds of defence walls. There are still some towers remaining now like the Torre de la Vela, Torre del Homenaje and the entrance Arco de Cristo. There is also a beautiful garden in the courtyard of the castle. The Museum of Malaga is housed in the Alcazaba which consists of two small museums: the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts and the Archaeology Museum. The first one exhibits a brilliant collection go 19th century paintings, while the second museum exhibits Roman antique goods, like Hispano Arab pottery and models of the castle. Read More

Hanging over a height of 100m from the base of the gorge, Caminito del Rey or the King's Pathway is a famous place among the tourists for its scary experience. The official access was banned in 2000 taking care of the safety of the climbers. but the rock climbers in the gorge were given access by a ferrata that lead to the remaining part of the walkway. It is a collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts and the Provincial Archaeological Museum. A museum founded in 1973, . A fine art collection of 2000 pieces was established by the Royal Decree of 24 July 1913, which encouraged the ministry of public instruction to establish such institutions in those provincial capitals that did not have them. The museum comprises works by Luis de Morales, Pablo Picasso, Francisco de Goya, and many more. The archaeological section has integrated the collections of the old Museo Loringiano. In December 2016, the museum opened its doors as the largest museum in Andalusia and the fifth in Spain. The collection includes objects and materials dating back to the protohistorical era around 1200 BCE. As a result, their sites are part of the multicultural landscape that displays city-states like Malaka and complex societies in the hinterlands of provinces.
