Isdhoo Buddhist Stupas
At the northernmost tip of the Atoll, Isdhoo Buddhist Stupas is the ideal location for tracing the history of the Buddhist in the Maldives. The place is filled with ruins of Buddhist Stupas as a lot of them were destroyed and replaced with mosques after the country’s conversion to Islam. This place became a major tourist spot after Buddhist images and artefacts were unearthed from the island.
Isdhoo Island
Home to a 300-year-old mosque, Isdhoo Island is situated on the northern tip of Laamu Atoll. Apart from being an epitome of natural beauty, the island also bears historical importance as it houses important ruins from Maldivian Buddhist era.
Not only has it given shelter to the ancient mosque which is believed to be built on a site where once existed a temple, but also to the 'Hawitta' which is an old artificial mound. Islamic Centre
Being the state religion of the Maldives, the Islamic Center in Male is one of the country's most famous and beautiful marvels of architecture. Situated in the northern fringes of the capital city, close to the Hulhule ferry point and neighbouring the Republic Square (Jumhooree Maidan), the grand building is the perfect example of Islamic architecture.
The colossal structure is one of the most visited landmarks in the country, and its remarkable presence dominates the city's skyline, thanks to its massive golden dome and a graceful minaret as its companion. It is the spot of several conference halls and an Islamic library. The centre also houses numerous offices, most importantly the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. It is believed that up to 5,000 people can be welcomed in the premises at once. The building lights up during Friday prayer sessions as thousands of worshippers gather to offer their devotion.

Kalhu Vakaru Mosque
This historic landmark was constructed in 1789 and has a fascinating history attached to it. Also known as the ‘Travelling Mosque’ this religious stories mosque was moved to numerous locations by the rulers. Kandu Valu Mosque
Although the exact date of the construction of this mosque remains a mystery, the place holds close connections to Mohammed Thakurufaanu, the former ruler of the Maldives Island from 1573 to 1585 AD. Located in Haa Alifu Atoll, it is believed that Thakurufaanu offered prayers here during his nonage and Mohanned Thakurufaanu's father was also buried in the cemetery present on the grounds of the mosque. Kudahuvadhoo Island
Kudahavadhoo Island is the capital island of Dhaalu Atoll. Despite a population of around 3,000, there isn’t much to do on the island but it is best known for its architectural importance due to the presence of mysterious mounds called ‘hawittas’. These mounds are believed to pre-date the Islamic period and are actually ruins of unexcavated Buddhist temples. There are also the preserved remains of an ancient mosque with coral-stone carvings and signs of excellent ancient masonry.
As with the rest of the country, Kudahavadhoo Island is blessed with gorgeous clear waters that are suitable for diving. The popular diving sites near the island are the Utheemu, a shipwreck dating back to 1960, and the Liffery that dates back to the 19th century. The island holds one of the country’s four international airports and is reachable by flight.
