The Mamba Village Crocodile Centre, located in the Nyali region of Mombasa, is the largest crocodile farm in Africa. It is home to over 1,000 young and mature crocodiles, including one of the oldest crocodiles in the world - Big Daddy. There is also a beautiful botanical garden, featuring aquatic plants and orchids, a large aquarium, and a fish farm. Tours are conducted at Mamba Village Crocodile Centre where an expert educates visitors about the life cycle and behaviour of crocodiles and other animals at the centre, including snakes. There is a horse riding area as well. Mombasa Jain Temple or Shree Parshwa Vallabh Jain Temple is a religious temple located outside the southwestern borders of the Old Town of Mombasa. It is the first Jain temple to be constructed outside the Asian continent and the oldest in Africa. Beautiful sculptures and figurines decorate the building from ceiling to floor. A pilgrimage centre for members of the Jain community from all over the world, the temple is adorned with white marble structures and silver doors. There is a pathshala that holds classes for children and daily lectures based on Pujya Kanji Swami’s discourses also take place. The Mombasa Memorial Cathedral is an Anglican Church situated between Nkrumah Road and Cathedral Road in Mombasa. Built during the British colonial times, its architecture resembles a mosque. The Mombasa Tusks is a monument over Moi avenue. It is also known as Pembe za Ndovu, meaning elephant tusks in Swahili. It was originally made of wood and was built to resemble elephant tusks. But in recent years, it has been reconstructed in aluminium to resemble an M shape, coincidentally standing for the first letter in Mombasa. The original monument was constructed by the British administration in Kenya, in 1952, to celebrate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was residing at the Mombasa Yachting Club and the monument was built on the road leading to her place of stay. Nguuni Nature Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary and park on the north coast of Mombasa near Nguu Tatu Hills. A 10-minute drive from Bamburi, it is home to diverse African wildlife and offers game drives where one can get glimpses of ostrich, giraffe, eland and oryx. It is popular for camping and has a designated picnic spot. Bird lovers should take a walk along the walking trails to spot pink-backed pelicans, Egyptian geese and yellow-billed stork. Seasonal species are easier to catch if visited at the right time. For example, long-tail cormorant can be located in January and February, while fulvous whistling duck in July and August. Nguuni Nature Sanctuary has an Education Centre & Auditorium, which is home to Kenya’s first free children’s library with over 11,500 books.
