Places To Visit In Nice
Nice Cathedral
Nice Cathedral is located in the Old Town of Nice in Southern France. It is a classic symbol of Baroque-styled architecture. Ten chapels make up the interior, which is also Baroque. There are nine additional altars devoted to famous saints in the Cathedral.
Since the 11th century, a church has been in this location in some form. However, most of what you see now was added over time. Saint Réperate, a Catholic martyr, is honoured in the Cathedral. Reperate, according to legend, was a young Palestinian woman who was decapitated in the third century A.D. for standing steadfast in her Christian faith. The Cathedral, which was rectangular and faced north, was reconstructed after Santa Susanna in Rome. As you stand outside, soaking in the magnificent view of the Cathedral's exterior, you will view the majestic bell tower that rises separately from the rest of the structure. Although it was added later, in the 18th century, it retains a Baroque aesthetic. Also, look for the spectacular dome at the back of the structure, adorned with lovely green and gold mosaics. The Nice Cathedral is open every day and has free entry. Get off at the Cathédral-Old City stop on the Nice tramway to reach the Cathedral.
