This tiny beach stretches for only four miles or roughly six and a half kilometers, and is entirely populated with luxury resorts and vast villas. It is on a just a few minutes' away from the quaint little town of Cherng Talay, where the primary occupation of the villagers even today is fishing, farming and rubber tapping, like their ancestors. Freedom beach was part of the tin mine area where there were tin mines once upon a time and which made Phuket a vibrant place. Laguna Phuket, one of Asia's largest resort complexes, managed to transform Bang Tao Beach into a very profitable and award-winning Eco-project. There is, however, a recent addition to this area called 'Boat Avenue'. At the heart of Bang Tao' Boat Avenue', a cluster of trendy shops, interesting restaurants, and even a vast Villa Market is set up. Bangla Road or Soi Bangla is the hub of nightlife in Phuket. It is a merry 400-metre stretch of road close to Patong beach that has been cordoned off from traffic and is reserved for only walking. It has a vibrant display of bright lights, street performances, street vendors, restaurants, shops, bars, and much more. Loud music and cheap booze shops lend it a happy vibe. Restaurants and pubs compete for customers, as do entertainers. Almost all bars and restaurants here are open-air or open-fronted, thus allowing passers-by to get a good glimpse of the inside. It is fun to simply walk down this street and watch the merrymakers and many things happening around. There are also some great discos on this stretch for those who love to dance. Nestled high up on the famous peak of Phuket above Chalong Bay, the 45 meters high Big Buddha or Ming Mongkol is one of the tallest statues in Thailand. It is located on Nakkerd Hill, less than 10 km from Kata, and is accessible by a 6km long uphill road. The view from the top is breathtaking. Make sure to dress appropriately. Completely funded by public donations, the statue was under construction for a long time. Now that it has been completed, an up-close visit to this idol completely crafted out of white marble is worth one time. As you reach the top, a remarkable awe-inspiring sight of the island's southern coast and the Andaman Sea awaits you. If the visit is well-timed, you will also be treated to fabulous sunset.
