Phuket Philatelic Museum

Phuket Philatelic Museum

Located at the end of Montri Road and Thalang Road in Phuket Town, the historical building of Phuket Philatelic Museum is the town’s first post and telegraph office. The building is inspired by Sino-Portuguese-style and contains old postal equipment, phones, and vintage Thai stamps. This 80-year-old building has since been renovated and now features three sections inside the museum. The first section comprises of posters depicting the development of Thai postal service since its inception by King Rama V. The second section features machines and various equipment including parcel-weighing machines, telegraph tickers, and telephones. The first Trick Eye Museum in southern Thailand, Trickeye 3D, is located on the corner of Montri and Phang Nga roads in Phuket town. It is a large two-story building that was a famous movie theatre until 2002. The main highlight is a feature gallery of 100 painted and sculpted scenes using trompe-l' oeil (meaning 'deceive the eye' in French) techniques. There are both permanent and temporary exhibitions at the Trickeye Museum in Phuket, which are equally fascinating. The Museum was designed by a Korean artist who had worked on other 3D Museums in other parts of Asia, including Thailand. It took only three months to turn this Museum into a world of virtual wall paintings. The Trickeye Museum features hyper-realistic paintings from many famous painters like Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Jean-François Millet. It also has some dramatic movie scenes from such popular movies like Indiana Jones and Zombie apocalypse movies. Phuket Walking Street is a weekend market on Thalang Road in old Phuket town. Makeshift shops are set up along the 350 meters long commercial street that also features multiple permanent shops, restaurants, and guest houses. This carnival-like atmosphere provides an added attraction for tourists who can buy souvenirs, handicrafts, clothing, and electronic goods most affordably here. The Phuket Walking Street is one of the best venues to sample local food, with numerous vendors hawking barbecued meat, Thai sweetmeats, and other delicious eatables. Promthep Cape

The most well-known and photographed location in Phuket, Promthep Cape lies ahead of Rawai Beach. Popularly known as ‘Laem Promthep’ or ‘God’s Cape’, it has a sweeping view over the southeast and east of this island. It also has an air-conditioned lighthouse, which is also a museum. Although you can't trek down to the end of the Cape’s promontory, a stroll around the viewing platform is enough to witness a spectacular sunset or sunrise view. If the day is clear, you can see as far as Phi Phi Islands, Koh Racha Noi, and Koh Racha Yai from the balcony of this lighthouse. It is also a great place to pose for pictures with the vast open vistas all around. There are handicraft stores and some food stalls near the car park, where you can pick up a souvenir. Though the tourist buses, crowds, and noise, particularly during peak season, can sometimes be annoying, it is still worth visiting for its stunning views. Saphan Hin Park

The Saphan Hin Park in Phuket town is an ideal spot for a little evening rendezvous, with its sprawling walks and lake. Evening time is the busiest in the park, with many street vendors selling delicious local food including fried noodles, barbequed meat and also fried insects! The Giew Tian Geng shrine is also another attraction here. Situated in Phuket town, plenty of lakes and walking trails surround Saphan Hin Park. Located within the park, there’s Saphan Hin Stadium, which is also Phuket’s main sports centre that includes a badminton space, tennis and basketball courts, a football field, a swimming pool, and petanque pitch. Although it may not look much during the day, the park transforms into one of the busiest parks in town by 6:00 PM. Besides, there’s also a mini-attraction - tin mining monument, a shell-shaped figurine symbolizing the Saphan Hin Park.
