The Salzburg festival is one of the world’s biggest opera, music, and drama festival. It takes place each summer and lasts five weeks, starting in late July. The Salzburg Festival takes place in the heart of the city, with concerts and plays happening in and around the Festival Halls, Cathedral Square, St. Peter’s Abbey, The Mozarteum, Collegiate Church, Republic, etc. On 22 August 1920, the first Salzburg Festival was officially inaugurated with Reinhardt's performance of Hugo von Hofmannsthal's play Jedermann (Everyman) on the steps of Salzburg Cathedral, starring Alexander Moissi. St. Peter's Abbey

St. Peter’s Abbey is often regarded as the spiritual heart of the city of Salzburg. These Baroque and Romanesque Halls became popular venues for themed concert evenings. The Abbey also houses Austria’s oldest library with an impressive reserve of ancient manuscripts. Founded by Bishop Rupert in 696, the former cathedral is the oldest Benedictine monastery in the German-speaking world and has been housing monks for over 1,000 years. St. Peter's Cemetery

Located outside the Catacombs at the foot of Festungsberg, St. Peter’s Cemetery is the oldest in Salzburg. The burial grounds are the final resting place of some of the essential people in Austria. The cemetery’s feature in the movie ‘The Sound of Music led to a rise in its popularity. The Late Gothic St Mary’s Chapel is located in the centre of the cemetery. Many crypts, gravestones and burial vaults can be seen among the beautiful gardens of the cemetery. St. Sebastian's Cemetery

Located outside St. Sebastian’s Church is the St. Sebastian’s Cemetery, a combined burial site and architectural masterpiece. One of the main attractions of the cemetery is the Gabriel Chapel, which is the mausoleum of Prince-Archbishop Dietrich. Built in 1502, it was designed by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich in the fashion of an Italian campo Santo and built according to the plans of Elia Castello. Untersberg is a group of mountains in the Berchtesgaden Alps, located about 30 minutes south of Salzburg. It is a natural border between Berchtesgaden, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria. The trick fountains of Hellbrunn Palace, known as Wasserspiele Hellbrunn, have charmed visitors for the past 400 years. Salzburg’s Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus, along with the help of architect Santino Solari, created one of the most beautiful late Renaissance palaces in the Alps region. Water flowing down from the Hellbrunn Mountain was used to build an intricate system of water fountains, automats and grottos. These fountains became the prominent design feature of the Hellbrunn Palace grounds as the captivating designs, and hidden water jets stunned all visitors.
