Ancient City

Ancient City

Ancient City of Samut Prakan gives you the opportunity to witness the entire vista of Thailand, or more accurately, of Siam - the country’s historical name. A millionaire businessman and patron of Thai culture, Lek Viriyaphant constructed this mesmerising reconstruction of Ancient Siam to represent his spiritual values - preservation of heritage is the salvation of mankind. The ‘city’, spread over an area of 320 hectares in the exact shape of Thailand’s map, is known to be the world’s largest outdoor museum. The park is dotted with 116 structures of historical significance - all located in their exact places geographically on the map of Thailand. Some of these monuments are scaled down, while others are life-size replicas. Some of the buildings which stand here are no more in reality. Numerous castles, temples, towers, halls, pavilions, markets, shrines and stupas make up this grand representation of the country’s history, culture and heritage. Among the prominent reconstructions, there are the former Grand Palace of Ayutthaya which was wrecked in the 1767 Burmese invasion, Wat Khao Phra Viharn, located on the Cambodian border and Phimai Sanctuary in Nakhon Ratchasima. There is also a very beautiful Garden of the Gods, with three-faced tableau of the Holy Trinity of Hinduism - Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar (Shiva). Read More
