California Academy of Sciences
The California Academy of Sciences is a research institute and natural history museum located in San Francisco, California. The Academy first began in 1853 as a society that conducted research. The Academy has four main museum programs- the Kimball Natural History Museum, the Morrison Planetarium, Rainforests of the World, and the Steinhart Aquarium. The interactive exhibits available around the entire museum allow the whole family to learn together in an educational and fun way.
The Kimball Natural History Museum showcases over 160 years of Academy research history. The highlights of the Natural History Museum are the 87-foot skeleton of the massive blue whale as well as the huge T-rex skeleton located in the Main Lobby. The Rainforest Exhibit is housed under a huge glass dome and comfortably adapted to the various flora and fauna of the tropical rainforests around the world. There are more than 1600 live animals with free-flying birds and birds. Make sure to check out the flooded forest tunnel which goes through the 100,000-gallon Amazonian water tank made of completely see through glass. The Steinhart Aquarium is one of the most biodiverse aquariums in the country. It has over 40,000 live animals across 900 species. It also features one of the largest indoor coral reefs in the world in their Philippine Coral Reef exhibit. The Morrison Planetarium is an experience that should not be missed! The show projects a hyper realistic view of the cosmos onto the Planetarium’s dome screen.
The Academy holds a special NightLife event every Thursday between 6 and 10 pm. There are a variety of foods and drinks on offer at the event, along with a seasonal “craft on draft” cocktail at each event. The events feature an eclectic mix of science, music, and art, which change between each event. The museum gift shop has a great collection of books on the diversity of California and some merchandise, postcards, souvenirs, etc. They host events throughout the year and provide museum quality photo prints of historic photographs.

Camino Falls
Camino Falls is a waterfall inside California’s Sierra National Forest which shares its boundaries with Fresno, Madera and Mariposa counties along with Yosemite National Park. Nestled under the shadows of Sierra Nevada Mountains, the forests are natural habitat of multiple reservoirs and lakes which allows for recreational activities such as boating, fishing and sailing. The ski-resort, China Peak, can only be accessed with special permits.
The low-volume waterfall is 200 feet long and crosses over the Camino Creek finally cascades over a granite rock slab. Nearby creeks include Johnson, Portuguese, Shuteye, Beasore, Muggler and Little Shuteye Pass. The falls enjoy a favourable distance from some of the historical abandoned campgrounds such as Beasore, Camino and Ryans Upper Cow Campground. Kates Cow Camp and Soda Spring Campgrounds are active camping sites.

Carson Falls
Carson Falls is a multi-layered waterfall near Fairfax, California. Its water-source is the Little Carson Creek in the Mount Tamalpais Watershed, a source of drinking water for Marin County residents. Little Carson Trail is the shortest route for hiking the falls which starts from the Azalea Hill parking lot leading to the Pine Mountain Road surrounded with a plethora of foliage including deciduous oaks, California bay, and madrones. The trail moves upward paved against the shrubs of oak, chaparral pea, manzanita, monkeyflower, ceanothus, chinquapin, yerba santa and Douglas Fir. The mountain road then descends to a junction around the Oak Mill Road which transitions into grasslands before crossing the creek and finally leading to the falls.
The wide multi-use fire road is shared by bikers and equestrians. Gas, pay phone, restaurants, and stores are about 4 miles northeast in Fairfax. No camping, restrooms and drinking water is in the immediate area. Entrance and parking is free allowing dogs on leashes.
