Agios Riginos Monastery

Agios Riginos Monastery

Agios Riginos Monastery is located 4 km South West of Skopelos Town. The Monastery was built in 1728 in the shape of the tomb of Agios Riginos, the Patron of the island, and was later refurbished in 1960. The monastery has cells on the northern side, a fountain, and a small gift shop. Celebrations happen every year on February 25th on the monastery when thousands of pilgrims attend from nearby islands. Daily buses are running to the monastery from the port. Read More

Amarandos Cove is a wild beach, located near Agnontas harbour. It is famous as the 3 trees location in Mamma Mia. The coastline consists of rocky coves, and the waters are almost always calm, which makes it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. A small cape which extends into the sea, and is connected to the beach via a canal, is the main attraction of the beach. The Monastery of Evangelistria is located about 3.5 km east of Skopelos Town, on the hillside of Mount Palouki. The monastery was built in 1712 and is one of the first post-Byzantine era monuments in Skopelos. The architecture of the monastery resembles a fortress and the main attraction is the iconostasis built in Constantinople.There is an excellent view of the town and the Aegean sea from the monastery. The monastery contains many important icons from Byzantine and post-Byzantine times. The inner courtyard has a roofed fountain and a small exhibition of various objects. Mini-buses run from the town to the monastery and are also accessible by cars or ATVs.Since the roads are washed away, it could be a bit difficult to climb during rain.
