Kibber

Kibber, also known as Kyibar, is a small village located in the Spiti Valley at an altitude of 4270 metres in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and barren landscapes, Kibber boasts of being the highest village with a motorable road. The village is particularly famous for the local monastery and Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. One can spend a day at the rest houses here, with the mountains watching over. A feature of this village is around 40 similar-looking houses built in Tibetan architecture. The houses are all built with stone and similar patterns and barring the conventional building materials and bricks. Due to the lack of transportation material, the raw materials are taken from the neighbouring villages.  It is the highest inhabited village with 77 houses with 366 people only. There are 187 men and 179 women in the town.Besides these, there are several nearby villages worth exploring for their ancient culture and beautiful views. Tibetan Buddhism is practised here and the village holds a special significance for Buddhists as the teacher of Dalai Lama, Serkong Rinpoche died here. He was also the founder of Kibber Monastery. Located in the Pin Valley, around 10 km from Attargo and 3 km from Gulling, the Kungri Monastery is the second oldest monastery in Spiti valley and the only one following Nyingmapa Buddhism. It is also the oldest order of Tibetan Buddhism. The Kungri Gompa is frequently visited by pilgrims, tourists and Buddhist scholars. The Kungri Monastery has gorgeous silk paintings of Buddhist deities adorning the inner walls. During June-July, you can witness the performance of the Devil Dance or Chham in the monastery. Kunzum Pass

Kunzum Pass or Kunzum La, as it is called by locals, is one of the highest motorable mountain passes of India, located at an altitude of 4,551m above mean sea level. It serves as a gateway to the beautiful Spiti valley Via Kullu and Lahaul. It lies on the eastern Kunzum Range of the Himalayas and is at a distance of 122 km from Manali.  Kunzum La offers an incredible 360-degree view of Bara- Shigri Glacier (the second longest glacier in the world), a jaw-dropping vista of Chandrabhaga Range and a spectacular view of the Spiti valley. This enthralling view makes Kunzum Pass a photographer's dream. There is a 15km trek to the famous Chandratal Lake (moon lake) from Kunzum Pass. It is believed that the visitors have to stop at the temple of Goddess Kunzum Devi, on their way to the pass, to pay their respect and seek the blessing to travel safely through the rugged terrain safely. It is at a distance of 222 kilometres from Manali and 252 kilometres from Leh. Located at an altitude of 4,290 metres, Sarchu is also called as Sir Bhum Chun. It lies between the Baralacha La mountains in the south and Lachulung La in the north. As it is located at a high altitude with rough patches of roads, it takes about two days to cross it. Thus, travellers and tourists camp in Sarchu to unwind.The camping site on the Himalayan mountain range is located in the Leh-Manali highway and offers a dual view of nature. Shashur Monastery is a Buddhist Monastery of the Drugpa Sect, located in Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a three-storey structure located at a distance of 35-40 km from Manali. The literal meaning of "Shashur" in the local language is blue pines, as blue pine trees can be found around the Shashur Monastery. Perched at an elevation of 600 m above the valley, the panoramic view of the river, mountains and Keylong town from Shashur Monastery is amazing. It was built in the 17th century, following the Mandala concept of a square having four gates with a circle in the centre. The prayer rooms are bedecked with large Thangka paintings and wall paintings, making this place even more worth the visit.
