Ghepan lake is among the most popular trekking routes from Sissu. The 34 km trek is considered to be moderately tough and takes about 12 hours to complete. The trek is through different villages such as Labrang village, famous for the Labrang Gompa, and Retil village for its beautiful farmlands. Ghepan lake is a fluorescent-blue glacial lake at the end of the trek, and you can see the remains of glaciers and snowy mountains. Bird watching, camping and stargazing are activities to indulge in during the trek.
There are several operators offering packages for Ghepan lake trek, including camping and food. The whole trek spans about 3 days from Sissu, and about 5 days from Manali. From Sissu, there is a short drive to Tori, and a trek from Tori to Gorduk, and then to Alias. You reach Ghepan Lake on the third day, after two nights of camping at Gorduk and Aliyas. You can also rent your own tents from Sissu for the trek. Carry a Govenment ID crd during the trek, along with a Desclaimer Certificate, and Medical Certificate of fitness. If you’re above the age of 58, you may also be required to carry a Threadmill Test result.
