Four Face Buddha Statue

The magnificent statue of the four-faced Buddha, situated in front of the Sanggar Agung Temple in Surabaya adds up to the beauty of its surrounding. It stands at the height of 36 meters and is a very common praying ground for the devout Buddhists of Surabaya. The statue is gold plated and carries the message of Buddha throughout its structure. Similar to the Four Face Buddha Statue in Thailand, but is smaller in stature. The gold-coating that the covers the statue was even imported from Thailand as well. Gereja Santa Perawan Maria' also known as the Church Of The Birth Of Our Lady is an exquisite Catholic church with gothic architecture. The awe-inspiring church was the first Roman Catholic Church to be built in Surabaya and was inaugurated in 1900. Built using red-bricks imported from Europe, it's high ceilings and gothic architectural style are reminiscent of the classical European churches that it drew inspiration from. The church was damaged as a result of fires that raged through the city during the Battle of Surabaya, and during the ensuing restoration projects bricks of different colours were used, leading to the uneven colouration of the church. Governor's Residence

An ideal spot for all history enthusiasts, the majestic Governor’s Residence, popularly referred to as the Gedung Negada Grahadi or as the Grahadi State Building, is a monument of immense historical significance. Built in the year 1795, the dignified building has been standing tall for almost two centuries in Surabaya in East Java. The name ‘Grahadi’ has been derived from Sanskrit, and is a compound formed of two separate words, namely, ‘Graha’, which translates to a ‘house’, and ‘Adi’, which may be translated to ‘distinguished’ or ‘ of a high degree’. The building has been named so since there is a conference space within its premises which is also referred to as the Grahadi. The magnificent Governor’s Residence in Surabaya is one of the finest instances of the wonderful Dutch architecture that prevailed during the colonial period. Even though most of the buildings that still remain from the eighteenth century have been renovated and modernized, the façade of the Governor’s Residence has stayed the same till date. Dominated by sharp vertical as well as horizontal compositions along with an aesthetically pleasing style, the two-story Grahadi State Building is flanked by a sprawling yard lush with palm trees.
