Agnigarh

Steeped in Hindu mythological lore, Agnigarh was said to be once the fortress where the Asura King Banasura imprisoned his daughter Usha who sought the love of Aniruddha, the grandson of Lord Krishna. Today it is a hillock operated as a park where sculptures tell the tale of the abduction of Aniruddha by Usha and the ensuing battle fought by Lord Krishna to retrieve his grandson. Bamuni Hills

Situated on the right bank of the Brahmaputra River, close to Bhairavi Temple, the ruins of Bamuni Hills date back to roughly the 9th and 10th century AD. Archaeologists surmise that a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu stood at the centre, with four other temples for Lord Shiva at the corners. The architectural style of the ruins and standing figures and sculptures are reminiscent of the Panchayatana style. It is said that these ruins date back roughly to the Pala dynasty era. Read More

Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary

Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary, located around 53 km south of Tezpur on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River, is a protected area primarily known for migratory bird sightings, particularly the Bengal florican. Some other bird species to look out for include the openbill stork, whistling duck, teal and black-necked stork. Considered a buffer for the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, there are numerous mammal species to be found, such as rhinos, Asian elephants, wild buffalos and rare sightings of tigers. Read More

Chitralekha Udyan

Also known as Cole Park, Chitralekha Udyan in Tezpur is a public park established in 1906 during the British Raj in India. The park has lush greenery, ample walkways with benches and several fountains that add to its charm. Children and adults alike will be thoroughly entertained by activities such as boating, bumper cars and the swimming pool, which is operational during the summer season. Da Parbatia

An archaeologically significant area, Da Parbatia is a village near the west of Tezpur that is home to remnants of a temple from the 6th century AD. These ancient remnants also overline the ruins of a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva built during the Ahom period. The Archaeological Survey of India is responsible for the maintenance of these ruins and also carries out further excavation and discovery when possible.

District Museum Tezpur

One of the 12 district museums in Assam, the District Museum Tezpur, is located in the heart of the city of Tezpur. Established on 16th March 1986, the museum houses over 500 exhibits, including sculptures, manuscripts, olden traditional metal inscriptions and traditional art and craft from various communities. There are some cannons that date back to the Ahom rule in Assam.

Kolia Bhomora Setu

Over 3 kilometres long and joining the southern and northern banks of the Brahmaputra River, Kolia Bhomora Setu was once the longest bridge in the state of Assam. Named after the Ahom General Kolia Bhomora Phukan, it connects Tezpur in the Sonitpur district to Kaliabor in the Nagaon district. The bridge is somewhat narrow, and it is not recommended that visitors stop in the middle to sightsee or click photographs.

Mahabhairab Temple

The Mahabhairab Temple in the north of Tezpur is an important Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is said that this temple was built by the Asura King Banasura, and the Shivalinga inside is built from a 'Living Stone' that slowly grows with age. Originally built from stone, parts of the temple have now been renovated with concrete and is now managed by the state government.

Padum Pukhuri

Padum Pukhuri, which translates to Lotus Pond, is a pond with a small island in the middle of the heart of Tezpur.
